PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bob Probert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Damozzi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Probert comes to the cage accompanied by Suffer, Conquer - Throwdown. Frank Damozzi told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Bob Probert! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Frank Damozzi! The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Matti Vanhoillinen and Arvi Lind.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Probert blocks a head kick by Damozzi.
Damozzi takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Frank Damozzi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Damozzi throws a hook but Probert blocks it. Probert misses with a leg kick and Damozzi counters with a nice body kick.
Damozzi gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Probert connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Damozzi needs to keep his hands up - Probert had a free shot at his head there. Damozzi shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Probert getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Damozzi fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Probert to the ground. Damozzi is now in Probert's guard. Damozzi avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Damozzi missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Damozzi postures up in Probert's guard and throws a big left but Probert blocks it. Damozzi got a little sloppy there for a moment and Probert has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Damozzi has managed to get both his arms back between Probert's legs - danger averted.
That's one minute gone in the round. Damozzi trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Damozzi makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Probert is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Damozzi throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Damozzi's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Damozzi throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Probert works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Damozzi works over Probert with some ground and pound from guard. Damozzi keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Probert's head. Probert has his foot on Damozzi's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Damozzi works his way back into a safe position though. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Damozzi scoring with punches to the head and body. Probert wants to hit a switch here but Damozzi passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Probert there! Damozzi scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Probert?
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Damozzi tries to control but Probert wriggling away. Probert is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Ruumishuone, so we'll see if he gets out of it. Damozzi lands a couple of good shots and Probert has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
It looks like Bob Probert has been cut. Damozzi scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Probert is looking for a way out. Damozzi lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Damozzi.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Even with his hooks in, Damozzi manages to miss with strikes from the back. Damozzi is landing with strikes from the back. Damozzi has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Damozzi lands strikes to the head.
Bob Probert's cut is getting worse. Damozzi lands strikes from the back and Probert isn't doing enough to escape the position. The referee steps in to end the fight.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Frank Damozzi! Frank Damozzi bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
