Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Edmond Heath! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Smith! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, George Francis and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smith gets a double leg takedown into Heath's guard. Heath lands a couple of decent looking body shots there.
Heath will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Heath wants to stand but Smith is controlling the position. Heath tries to land a sweep but no joy. Smith seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Smith looking to pass the guard. Heath has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Smith accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Smith trying to control but Heath is working from the bottom.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Joe Smith wasn't active enough on the ground. Smith connects with a combination that backs up Heath into the cage. Smith lands a flurry of punches that gets past Heath's guard. Heath is down and the referee has seen enough. It is all over! Smith bursts into tears - this win obviously means a huge amount to him.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Joe Smith! After the fight, Joe Smith was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
