Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Man Mills! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Boris Bakkes! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Anthony Taglia and Columbo Gatti.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fight moves into the clinch position. Mills tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Bakkes avoids it. Bakkes works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Mills looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Bakkes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mills. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Bakkes prevents Mills from getting back to his feet. Bakkes throws a big right hand that misses. Bakkes drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Mills dives on top into guard. Mills tries to stand but Bakkes is controlling from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mills won't allow Bakkes to sweep him here.
Man Mills has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Bakkes rushes Mills and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Bakkes has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Mills clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! Mills has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bakkes working for the choke. Bakkes is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Mills up.
Bakkes is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Mills knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Mills for a finish. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Bakkes biding his time, looking for the opening.
Bakkes working for the choke. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bakkes keeps control of the position easily here as Mills tries to buck him off.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bakkes's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Bakkes working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Mills is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Bakkes has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Mills taps out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Boris Bakkes! Boris Bakkes was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
