Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jerry Wheeler! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kivi Kipelainen! The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Arvi Lind and Tarja Halkonen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kipelainen gets a takedown into half guard. Kipelainen is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Wheeler won't allow Kipelainen to pass to mount. Kipelainen is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Wheeler has managed to free his arm - good work. Wheeler won't allow Kipelainen to pass to mount. Kipelainen wants to work for an arm triangle but Wheeler is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kipelainen passes to side control. Wheeler seems a little lost for a moment, as Kipelainen dominates the positioning. Wheeler really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Wheeler is trying to get back to his feet. Kipelainen advances nicely into full mount. Wheeler tries to lock up and control but Kipelainen gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Kipelainen tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Wheeler really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kipelainen scoring with strikes but Wheeler is staying in there. Kipelainen wants to get back to his feet but Wheeler is holding on tight.
Kipelainen controlling the position easily from mount. It looks like Kipelainen might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Kipelainen wants to stand but Wheeler is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kipelainen landing punches. Kipelainen content just to control the position here. Kipelainen prevents Wheeler from getting the reversal. Kipelainen controlling from mount. Kipelainen is in the full mount, landing strikes.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wheeler taking shots to the head. Kipelainen content just to control the position here. Kipelainen landing strikes from the mount and Wheeler is in trouble!
Wheeler is rocked! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Kipelainen is looking to stand but Kipelainen has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.
Wheeler is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Kipelainen looking to control and managing it successfully. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kivi Kipelainen dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Kipelainen fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Wheeler sprawls well initially but Kipelainen persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Kipelainen controlling the pace. Kipelainen is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Kivi Kipelainen has got the better of the ground game so far. Kipelainen prevents Wheeler from improving his position. Kipelainen slows the pace down in half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wheeler makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Wheeler. Kipelainen's corner is telling him to maintain position. Wheeler is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Kipelainen slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Kipelainen is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Wheeler is controlling him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kipelainen looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Kipelainen has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Wheeler has passed into side control.
Kipelainen is trying to improve his position. Wheeler will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Kipelainen tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Wheeler presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kipelainen is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Wheeler manages to capitalize on a mistake by Kipelainen to take his back!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kipelainen trying to control the position but Wheeler manages to sink in the hooks. Kipelainen might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Wheeler haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Wheeler looking for the choke from the back. Kipelainen turns into Wheeler and is now in his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wheeler will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kivi Kipelainen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
Kipelainen misses with a straight right. Kipelainen scores with a takedown into Wheeler's guard. Kipelainen postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Kipelainen slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Kipelainen has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Wheeler is proving hard to escape from. Wheeler is trying to control the position but Kipelainen postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kipelainen sitting in guard here, content to control.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Wheeler scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Wheeler working away. Kipelainen is trying to buck Wheeler off. Kipelainen manages to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wheeler is looking for submissions but instead, Kipelainen has regained full guard.
Kipelainen is controlling Wheeler's posture.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Kivi Kipelainen wasn't active enough on the ground. Wheeler tries to close the distance and clinch but Kipelainen swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Kipelainen looking to score a takedown here. Wheeler is defending well but Kipelainen drives through and ends up in Wheeler's guard. Kipelainen slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Kipelainen throwing strikes from guard but Wheeler blocks nicely. Kipelainen controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kipelainen stopping the sweep attempt from Wheeler. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Kipelainen scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Kipelainen not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Jerry Wheeler has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Kivi Kipelainen is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kivi Kipelainen has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Kipelainen shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Wheeler's guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Kivi Kipelainen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Kipelainen has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
