Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lanny Rojas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mikey Ares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ares has chosen Battle cry as his entrance music. Mikey Ares looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lanny Rojas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mikey Ares!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Robert Twigg and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ares shoots in and gets a takedown into Rojas's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rojas has his foot on Ares's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ares works his way back into a safe position though.
Ares wants to control from the top but Rojas keeps moving.
Ares throws a big right hand that misses.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ares wants to control from the top but Rojas keeps moving.
Ares looking to sit in guard and control but Rojas gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Ares throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Rojas content to stall in guard here.

Rojas decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Ares, up you get!

Rojas tries to clinch but Ares is having none of it.

Rojas gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Rojas manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ares manages to get himself to full guard.
Rojas is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Ares pulls Rojas in close to his closed guard and prevents Rojas from doing any damage or advancing position.
Rojas working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Ares's head.

Rojas drops back looking for a leg! Ares is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ares manages to kick Rojas off! Rojas jumps back into Ares's guard.
Rojas content to stall in guard here.
Rojas knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ares on the ground.

Rojas's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Rojas won't allow Ares to get back to his feet.

We're going to have a standup here because Lanny Rojas wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Ares shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Rojas napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Ares looks winded!
Rojas gets back to half guard.
Ares wants to take a breather but Rojas is having none of it.
Rojas is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
We've been informed that Ares has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Ares thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Rojas is looking to get back to full guard here but Ares has managed to pass to side control instead.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rojas sneaks back into half guard.
Rojas is pressing down on Ares's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Ares wants to control from the top but Rojas keeps moving.
Ares is looking to work some ground and pound but Rojas has wrist control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rojas is trying to keep Ares in close.
Rojas is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Ares is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Lanny Rojas will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Ares shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Ares was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Rojas wants to get back to his feet.

Ares stands up.

Rojas gets caught napping as Ares dives in and scores a takedown. Rojas manages to retain guard.
Rojas manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ares manages to get himself to full guard.
Ares is breathing heavily.
Rojas is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Ares looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Rojas passes into half guard.
Rojas is controlling the pace.
Rojas thows a huge punch but Ares dodges it nicely.
Rojas is taking a breather. Ares says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Ares throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Rojas was covering up waiting for the punch and Ares finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Mikey Ares has got the better of the ground game so far.

Rojas wants to hit a switch here but Ares passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Rojas there!

Ares stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Ares clinches.

Ares's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Rojas clinches up with Ares and pushes him back against the cage.
Rojas looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Ares is looking to break free of the clinch but Rojas has double underhooks.
Ares tries to break free but Rojas pushes him back against the cage.
A short body shot lands from Rojas as the two fighters clinch.
Ares is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Rojas tries to pull guard but Ares holds him up against the cage and eventually Rojas drops back down to his feet.
Rojas is trying to break the clinch but Ares is controlling him.

Ares has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Rojas regains guard immediately.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ares wants to pass the guard but Rojas is keeping the position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mikey Ares showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Ares closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Rojas closes the distance and clinches.

Ares breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Ares closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ares lands in his opponent's guard.
Rojas tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Ares takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Rojas wants to improve his position but instead Ares has moved into half guard.

Rojas moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Rojas is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Rojas is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Ares manages to get to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rojas engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Rojas stops Ares from standing up.
Ares looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Rojas postures up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Ares feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Ares stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rojas swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rojas wants to sweep but no luck.

Rojas is looking for a triangle but Ares pushes his legs off easily.
Ares wants to control from the top but Rojas keeps moving.
Rojas looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ares is one step ahead there.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Mikey Ares.

Ares shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Rojas is trying to defend but Ares finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Rojas is looking for a sweep. Ares is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ares not landing any meaningful shots this time.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Mikey Ares.
I think Ares has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
