The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carpenter shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Brown napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Brown is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Carpenter is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Brown trying to hold on to Carpenter's head to control him but Carpenter postures up.
Brown tries to get to full guard but Carpenter has control of the leg.
Brown pushes Carpenter off looking to stand but Carpenter dives back in and keeps control.
Carpenter is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Brown sees it coming and defends easily.
Brown is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Carpenter stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Jason Brown seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Brown counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Brown looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Carpenter wants to get back to his feet.
Carpenter keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Brown wants to stand but Carpenter has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Brown prevents Carpenter from standing back up.

Brown slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Brown would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jason Brown.
A head kick misses from Carpenter.
Carpenter goes for a double leg but Brown avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Brown continues to drive forward.

Brown has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Carpenter uses from the top position.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Brown fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Carpenter to the ground. Brown is now in Carpenter's guard.

Brown looking to sit in guard and control but Carpenter gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Brown shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Carpenter as he jumps to the side.

Brown has taken the fight to the clinch.
Brown is trying to drag Carpenter to the mat but Carpenter just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Carpenter scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Brown thuds a left hand into Carpenter's body.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carpenter has one foot on Brown's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Carpenter accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Brown really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Carpenter. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Jason Brown showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Brown stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Brown wants it to stay on the feet.

Brown feints and then cracks Carpenter's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Carpenter down.

Brown darts in looking for a takedown but Carpenter gets double underhooks and turns Brown into the cage.
Brown pulls guard effortlessly.

Carpenter looks to score with a jab to the body but Brown is just out of range.
Brown motions for Carpenter to come forward. Brown throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Brown tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Carpenter defends well and Brown ends up having to push Carpenter into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Carpenter shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Brown but Brown pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Brown has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Carpenter tries to score a power double leg takedown but Brown sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Carpenter somewhat.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Modesto Carpenter.
Well Brown has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
