PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Paddy McIrish (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Melcher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Paddy McIrish has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Paddy McIrish!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jon Melcher!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Alec Ball and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McIrish has Melcher up against the cage in a clinch.
Melcher can't get the takedown.
McIrish is trying to push Melcher away but Melcher has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Melcher changes levels and goes for a takedown here. McIrish fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Melcher goes for a double leg but McIrish avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as McIrish continues to drive forward.
Paddy McIrish has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Melcher.
McIrish wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

With the fighters up against the cage, McIrish throws an elbow but misses.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Melcher shoots in for a takedown but McIrish shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

McIrish has Melcher up against the cage in a clinch.
McIrish gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Melcher.

McIrish is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

McIrish pulls guard successfully.

Melcher drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and McIrish dives on top into guard.

Melcher is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. McIrish is aware though and is defending well.
McIrish postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
McIrish has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
McIrish stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Melcher swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Melcher wants to sweep but no luck.

Melcher escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. McIrish gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
McIrish wants to control from the top but Melcher keeps moving.
Melcher has a closed guard, preventing McIrish from standing up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Melcher is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

McIrish has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Melcher is proving hard to escape from.

McIrish wanted to stand there but Melcher had control of the position.

Melcher has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but McIrish can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

McIrish is sitting in close to Melcher's body. Melcher has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! McIrish is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, McIrish is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Melcher.

Jon Melcher gave a mention to Milwaukee's Best Nutrition in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales).
