11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Esa Wideroos! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 14 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dmitry Boitsoff! The judges for this bout are William Gold, Donald Grub and James Ackerman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Boitsoff throws a sloppy head kick and Wideroos moves out of range easily. Wideroos closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Wideroos lands in his opponent's guard. Boitsoff looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Wideroos passes into half guard.
Boitsoff controlling the position well. Wideroos is looking to take a break and control but Boitsoff is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Boitsoff looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Wideroos is trying to control. Boitsoff wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wideroos seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Boitsoff does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Boitsoff trying to hold on to Wideroos's head to control him but Wideroos postures up.

Boitsoff escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Wideroos gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wideroos not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Wideroos wants to stand but Boitsoff has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Boitsoff has his foot on Wideroos's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wideroos works his way back into a safe position though. Wideroos trying to control the position from guard on top but Boitsoff is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Boitsoff is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Wideroos defends well. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Wideroos wants to get up but he can't break Boitsoff's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's one minute gone in the round. Boitsoff jumps guard but Wideroos turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Wideroos tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Boitsoff is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Wideroos to keep the fight standing. Esa Wideroos has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dmitry Boitsoff. Boitsoff decides to pull guard. Wideroos has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Boitsoff has his hands on Wideroos's head, controlling the position. Wideroos trying to control but Boitsoff is working from the bottom.
