The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Delgado throws a combination that misses and Ruiz counters with a right hand to the body. Delgado clinches up against the cage. Delgado manages to break the clinch.
Ruiz tries to clinch up but Delgado circles away and keeps his distance. A telegraphed right hand from Delgado misses the target. Delgado scores with a takedown into Ruiz's guard. Ruiz utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Delgado postures up in Ruiz's guard and throws a big left but Ruiz blocks it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Delgado trying to control but Ruiz is working from the bottom. Delgado slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Rudy Delgado hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Ruiz avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Delgado closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Ruiz did well to prevent Delgado getting side control. Delgado slips a nice elbow through Ruiz's hands, connecting with Ruiz's forehead. Delgado has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Delgado trying to mount his opponent but Ruiz defends it. Ground and pound from Delgado.
