0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Denis Churilov! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Both fighters circling a little - Churilov finishes the exchange with a kick to the body. Diaz moves into the clinch. Diaz has clasped his hands together around Churilov's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Churilov is looking to regain half guard here but Diaz keeps moving and retains side control. Churilov sneaks back into half guard. Churilov is not content to let Diaz control the position. Diaz prevents Churilov from standing back up.

Diaz is looking to take a break and control but Churilov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Churilov kicks off Diaz and gets to his feet. Diaz showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Churilov.

Diaz controls Churilov momentarily but Churilov frees himself. Churilov gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. No luck with that takedown attempt from Churilov. Diaz looks to land a combination but Churilov avoids it well. Churilov throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Nice takedown defense from Diaz. No joy for Churilov on that attempt. Diaz moves into the clinch successfully.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Churilov gets a trip takedown into half guard. Diaz tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Churilov has advanced to mount. Uh oh. Churilov sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Churilov tries to control but Diaz wriggling away. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Churilov controlling his opponent. Diaz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Churilov on the ground. Diaz is working to get back to half guard.

Diaz throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Churilov. Churilov fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Diaz, pushing him back against the cage. Churilov struggling a bit here. Churilov regains half guard. Churilov has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Diaz is working away from the top position though. Diaz is keen to just control but Churilov is a slippery customer. Diaz is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Churilov is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. It's preventing any offense from Diaz, at least for the moment. Diaz trying to control but Churilov is working from the bottom. Churilov not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Diaz shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Churilov is trying to defend but Diaz finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Churilov makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Churilov. Diaz looking to sit in guard and control but Churilov gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Churilov perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. This has been an exciting period of action! Diaz is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Churilov working over Diaz with some ground and pound. Diaz looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Churilov lands a nice short elbow. Churilov postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Diaz to stand up. Diaz lands a two punch combo.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Diaz shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Churilov keeps control of the position for the meantime. Churilov looking for submissions off his back. Churilov kicks Diaz off and gets back to his feet. Churilov fails with the takedown. Diaz looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Churilov! Churilov is trying to control Diaz's posture but Diaz avoids it.

Churilov takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Churilov lands a head kick. Diaz smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Diaz shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Churilov's guard. Churilov is trying to control the position but Diaz postures up. Diaz throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Churilov was covering up waiting for the punch and Diaz finishes the takedown easily into guard. Churilov is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Diaz rolls with it to try and escape but Churilov cranks on the arm and Diaz is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
