PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Destin Craven (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dominic Cerrone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Destin Craven!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dominic Cerrone!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Vladimir Khabensky and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cerrone tries to sprawl but Craven drives through with a takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Cerrone pushes Craven off looking to stand but Craven dives back in and keeps control.
Craven is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Still in half guard, Craven seems content to control.
Cerrone won't allow Craven to pass to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Craven is looking to take a break and control but Cerrone is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Craven seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Craven missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Craven throwing shots but Cerrone is blocking nicely.
Craven not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Craven looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Craven seems to be working for a kimura but Cerrone defends the submission attempt.
Cerrone wants to get back to his feet.
Craven missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Cerrone is trying to stand.

Craven is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Cerrone is just riding it out for now. Craven eventually gives up the hold.

Craven is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Craven trying to pass the guard but Cerrone defending well.
Craven missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Craven keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Craven trying to control the action but Cerrone is working from the bottom.
Cerrone pushes Craven off looking to stand but Craven dives back in and keeps control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Craven works his way into full mount!
Craven looking to control and managing it successfully.
Cerrone is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Cerrone is squirming around, avoiding Craven's attempts to control the action.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Craven with the ground and pound from mount.
Cerrone really wants to buck Craven off and get back to his feet.

Craven is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Cerrone has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Cerrone!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Craven looking for a sweep. Not yet Craven, not yet.
Cerrone trying to control the position from guard on top but Craven is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Craven tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Craven is working an open guard so Cerrone takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cerrone lands a nice hook to Craven's body. Craven takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Craven throws a front kick that sends Cerrone stumbling back into the cage.

Cerrone lands a left and a right that send Craven crashing to the mat, dazed. Cerrone thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Craven is rocked!


It looks like Destin Craven has been cut.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Craven misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Oh Craven is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Craven lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
A punch combination from Cerrone misses.
Craven seems to have got his legs back now.
Dominic Cerrone is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Craven will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Destin Craven will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Destin Craven's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Cerrone loads up on a big right hand but Craven slips the punch.
Craven throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Cerrone lands with a precision combination! Left, right, uppercut and Craven falls flat on his face, eyes wide open but he's out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:13 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Dominic Cerrone!
