The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McLachlan lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
McLachlan throws an overhand right that lands on Volpicelli's shoulder, as Volpicelli tries to avoid the shot.
Volpicelli scores with a nice body kick.
Volpicelli fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
We've been informed that Volpicelli has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Volpicelli has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Volpicelli there as he acknowledges the shot.
Nice uppercut lands for McLachlan. That snapped Volpicelli's head back.
McLachlan fails in his attempt to clinch.

McLachlan's corner calls for a 1-2. McLachlan obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

McLachlan uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Volpicelli has time to react.

McLachlan ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Volpicelli moves away.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Volpicelli tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Volpicelli has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
McLachlan manages to work his way to half guard, despite Volpicelli's best efforts.

Volpicelli is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed McLachlan to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.

Volpicelli is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but McLachlan is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
McLachlan can't do much from the bottom here.

Volpicelli swings around for an armbar but McLachlan sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Volpicelli's guard.
Volpicelli is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

McLachlan wants to control from the top but Volpicelli keeps moving.
McLachlan controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Volpicelli is looking for a triangle but McLachlan pushes his legs off easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ryan McLachlan will probably get the nod.
That's time! McLachlan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

McLachlan cracks Volpicelli with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Volpicelli crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from McLachlan - the referee stops the clock and Volpicelli gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says McLachlan. Volpicelli manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

McLachlan throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Volpicelli.
McLachlan comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for McLachlan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
