Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Steven Parlour! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Al Forenza! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Dmitry Maklakov and Illya Tyunina.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Parlour swings away with a leg kick that misses. Parlour throws a right and a left that Forenza avoids nicely. Forenza looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Forenza slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. I looks like Forenza might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Parlour wants to stand but Forenza is controlling the position. Forenza looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Forenza preventing the sweep. Forenza drops back looking for a leg! Parlour is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Parlour manages to kick Forenza off! Forenza jumps back into Parlour's guard. Parlour striking off his back but it's not causing Forenza any problems.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Forenza controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Parlour is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Parlour can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Forenza controls the pace. Forenza stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Parlour swivels though and keeps the full guard. Forenza is stalling in the full guard. Let's hope that Forenza has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Despite being in the dominant position, Al Forenza just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Parlour misses the shot to the body. Parlour is breathing heavily. Parlour throws a head kick but Forenza moves out of range.
Forenza swats away the attempt to clinch by Parlour. Parlour gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Forenza counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well, if Forenza is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Forenza in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Parlour tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Forenza!
