PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alexander Frost (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Unit Two (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Unit Two will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alexander Frost!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Unit Two!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Elvis Blanc and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Frost has managed to clinch.
Frost tries to pull guard but Two holds him up against the cage and eventually Frost drops back down to his feet.

Frost jumps guard.

Frost working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Two doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Two manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Frost could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Frost is looking for a triangle but Two pushes his legs off easily.
Frost might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Two throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Two tries to stand but Frost is controlling from the bottom.
Two trying to control the position from guard on top but Frost is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Two postures up in Frost's guard and throws a big left but Frost blocks it.

Frost is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Two with a flurry of punches that miss.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Two not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Frost working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Two doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Two manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Two avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Two must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Two stands and throws Frost's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Two trying to control the action but Frost is working from the bottom.

Frost is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Two wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Frost, who protects the arm well.
Frost sneaks back into half guard.

Two stalling away here and it's allowed Frost to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Two stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Frost swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Frost looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Frost has his foot on Two's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Two works his way back into a safe position though.

Frost is looking for a triangle here but Two uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Frost is trying to improve his position.

Two gets to mount! Frost was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Two content just to control the position here.
You get the feeling that Frost really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Frost bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Two has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Frost wanted to stand there but Two had control of the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alexander Frost dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Nice shot lands for Two.
Two misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Two dodges the punch combination from Frost.
Frost tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Frost keeps the fight on the outside.
Two looks to land a combination but Frost avoids it well.
Frost stuffs the takedown attempt from Two. Two gets slowly back to his feet.
Jab, jab by Frost - just one landing.
Two fails with a takedown attempt.
Alexander Frost has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Unit Two.

Two drives through and clinches with Frost against the cage.

Frost has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Two uses from the top position.

Frost is working an open guard so Two takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Two is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

It looks like Alexander Frost has been cut.
Frost looks to throw the jab but Two is out of range.
Frost has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.
Two misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Frost leaves Two with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Alexander Frost is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Frost throws a series of punches but Two moves out of range.
Two tries to land a front kick but Frost steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
The fight stays on the outside here - Frost looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Frost cracks Two with an open hand slap.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Two tries to keep at a distance but Frost has taken the fight into the clinch.
Frost pushes off an throws an elbow but Two leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Two avoids a wild elbow strike from Frost.
Frost tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Two smiles and moves away.
Two looks for a takedown but Frost sprawls well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Frost falls off balance throwing a combination
and Frost takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Two tries to clinch up but Frost circles away and keeps his distance.
Frost is looking to clinch.
A combination from Frost does no damage.

Oooooh!!! Two has knocked Frost down with a huge combo! Two steps away and waves a wobbly Frost back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Frost tries to bum rush Two with a series of wild strikes but Two uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Two misses with a takedown attempt - Frost sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Frost stuffs the takedown.

Frost wants to clinch
and Two counters with a right hand to the body.
Unit Two seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Frost misses with a combination
and Two counters with a left to the body.
Two fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Two misses with a takedown attempt
and Frost cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Frost wants to clinch up but Two keeps it at a distance.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Two.
Two digs a good hook to Frost's body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Unit Two showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Alexander Frost's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


A head kick by Two misses

and Frost counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Frost.
Frost is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Frost pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Two blocks an elbow strike from Frost.

Frost manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Frost isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Two stacks Frost on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Two!

Two tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Two stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Unit Two seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A combination from Frost does no damage.
No luck for Two with that takedown attempt.
Frost is looking to clinch but Two is avoiding it.

Two doesn't manage to clinch there - Frost circles away.
Frost throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Two.
Frost throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Two fails to land the takedown.
Alexander Frost has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Unit Two.

Two fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Frost avoids it really well and circles away.

Frost breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

A head kick misses from Two.
Frost defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Two.
Two moves out of range of the strikes.
Two tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Frost rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Two moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Frost closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Two taking a breather.

Frost drags the fight down to the ground.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Frost working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Two doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Two manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Frost keeping moving, preventing Two from controlling successfully.

Two got a little sloppy there for a moment and Frost has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Two has managed to get both his arms back between Frost's legs - danger averted.

Two stands and steps away. Frost gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Frost tries to clinch there but Two circles away.
Two connects with a nice looking jab.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Alexander Frost.
I think Frost has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
