Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Caleb Herrera! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tyler Fransco! The judges for this bout are Topper Green, Steve Erwin and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Herrera shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Fransco counters by clinching up. Fransco manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Herrera loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Herrera being controlled here momentarily. Fransco wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Herrera is now in half guard. Fransco makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Herrera blocks a head kick by Fransco.

That's one minute gone in the round. Fransco has picked Herrera up - he's going for a ride! Fransco dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Fransco is working for an americana but Herrera has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Fransco was thinking about the submission. That's two minutes gone in the round. Fransco prevents Herrera from getting back to his feet. Herrera lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Herrera with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Herrera really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Fransco wants to stand and escape but Herrera is having none of it. Fransco looking to control.
Herrera being controlled here momentarily. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Hammerfist, elbow! yells Herrera's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Fransco tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fransco is controlling Herrera's posture. Fransco is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Herrera is aware though and is defending well. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Fransco holds on and takes a little breather. Fransco looking to hit a scissor sweep but Herrera is one step ahead there. Fransco has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Herrera can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Fransco looking for a sweep. That's four minutes gone in the round. Herrera wants to stand but Fransco has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Herrera stops Fransco from standing up. Fransco looking for a sweep. Not yet Fransco, not yet. Fransco utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Herrera missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Fransco has Herrera pulled in close to control his posture. Fransco is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Fransco is trying to control the position but Herrera postures up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Herrera preventing the sweep. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Fransco can do anything to dispel that myth. Herrera is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Fransco shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Herrera napping and manages to drive through into side control! Herrera is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Fransco has just dragged him back down to the mat. Fransco in side control lands a decent elbow. Fransco thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Fransco stands up and we're back to a striking position. Fransco throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Fransco throws a head kick that misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Herrera connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Fransco bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Fransco in side control, throwing shots but Herrera defends. Fransco decides to stand up, so the ref orders Herrera to his feet. Fransco feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Fransco drops back, looking for a kneebar! Herrera looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Herrera looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Herrera! Herrera working away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Fransco is looking to regain half guard here but Herrera keeps moving and retains side control. Fransco sneaks back into half guard. Fransco tries to kick Herrera off but Herrera keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Fransco trying to control but Herrera postures up.
Fransco is looking for a sweep. Herrera is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Herrera throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Fransco is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Herrera throwing shots but Fransco is blocking nicely. Fransco looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fransco is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Herrera pulls his head out easily. Tyler Fransco has got the better of the ground game so far. Fransco keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Fransco pushes Herrera off and gets back to his feet. Herrera gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Fransco to score an easy takedown into full guard. Fransco passes into half guard. Herrera is looking for a sweep. Fransco is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Herrera is positioning himself well to prevent Fransco advancing to mount. Fransco wants to free his trapped foot but Herrera is holding on for dear life with his legs. Fransco seems to be working for a kimura but Herrera defends the submission attempt. Herrera trying to control but Fransco postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Tyler Fransco showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Tyler Fransco wasn't active enough on the ground. Fransco looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Herrera! Fransco decides to take the fight back to the feet. Fransco drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Fransco is stalling in the full guard. Fransco preventing the sweep.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fransco controls the pace of the fight for a moment. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Fransco stands up from guard. Let's bang! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Fransco drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Fransco wants to control from the top but Herrera keeps moving. Fransco looking to pass the guard. Herrera trying to strike off his back.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fransco has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Herrera is proving hard to escape from. Herrera trying to control the position.
Herrera wants to stand up but Fransco is controlling him.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Fransco lands with a slapping head kick.
Herrera is rocked! Fransco has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Fransco throws a quick head kick that knocks Herrera silly! This fight is all over! What a finish! Fransco is up on the cage, taking in the applause from the crowd.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Tyler Fransco! Tyler Fransco was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
