Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vladimir Spun! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Locke Hyral! The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Vladimir Khabensky and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Spun misses with an uppercut. Hyral saw that one coming. Hyral drops Spun with a nice combination! Hyral dives into Spun's guard, looking to finish!
Spun is rocked!
It looks like Vladimir Spun has been cut. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Spun utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Oh Spun is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Hyral must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Hyral tries to stand but Spun is controlling from the bottom. Spun seems to have got his legs back now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Spun keeping moving, preventing Hyral from controlling successfully. Spun throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Spun might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Spun bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hyral's guard. Spun throws a big right hand that misses. Hyral is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Spun missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Hyral is trying to control the position but Spun postures up. Spun is breathing heavily. Spun decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Hyral, up you get! Hyral shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Spun as he jumps to the side. A nice leg kick lands there from Hyral. Hyral looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Spun is fending him off so far but Hyral persists. Nope, Spun circles away and we're back to standing. Vladimir Spun seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hyral shoots in but no luck this time. Vladimir Spun has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Locke Hyral. Hyral shoots in and drives through. Spun sprawls well. Hyral fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Spun looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Spun is looking to clinch. Hyral tries to clinch up but Spun circles away and keeps his distance. Hyral looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Spun swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Hyral counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters. Spun misses with a series of wild punches.
Hyral has a takedown stuffed. Horrible takedown by Hyral or perhaps it was just good defense by Spun which made him look bad. Spun shoots in and bounces Hyral off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hyral is working an open guard so Spun takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Hyral fails with the takedown. Spun misses with a wild body shot. Hyral scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Hyral with a lazy takedown attempt and Spun counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Spun wants to get back to striking at distance but Hyral won't allow it.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Spun breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Spun throws a sloppy head kick and Hyral moves out of range easily. Hyral has a takedown stuffed. Hyral closes the distance looking to clinch so Spun counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hyral not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Spun working some strikes from top position. Spun wants to pass the guard but Hyral is keeping the position. Hyral utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Hyral wants to sweep here but Spun controlling him for the moment. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Hyral is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Vladimir Spun will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Vladimir Spun's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Hyral uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Spun. Spun throws a lazy right hand but Hyral sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Hyral shoots in but Spun avoids the takedown attempt easily. Hyral fails to land the takedown. Hyral looks to land a combination but Spun avoids it well. Spun drives through with a takedown into guard. Hyral throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Spun scoring with some ground and pound. Hyral is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Spun is controlling him.

Spun missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Spun stands up from guard. Let's bang! Danga de danga de dang - Hyral scores with a four punch combination! Spun throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Hyral counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Hyral misses with a takedown attempt and Spun counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Hyral's guard now. Vladimir Spun has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Locke Hyral. Hyral throws his legs up looking for a submission but Spun uses it to pass to side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round. I really don't envy Hyral right now.
Hyral breaks Spun's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Hyral trying to control the position from guard on top but Spun is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Spun lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Hyral! Spun lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hyral's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Spun has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Hyral keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Spun landing punches. Hyral tries to hold on but Spun pushes him away. Spun postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Hyral looks a forlorn figure.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Spun is in the full mount, landing strikes. Hyral is trying desperately to improve position. Hyral taking shots to the head. Hyral is looking to get to half guard. Hyral is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Hyral wants to control but Spun is having none of it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Vladimir Spun dominated that second round. The cut man is working on Vladimir Spun's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Spun manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Spun falls off balance throwing a combination
and Hyral makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Hyral has his takedown stuffed and Spun counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Vladimir Spun has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Locke Hyral. Both fighters are breathing heavily.

and Hyral counters with a nice body kick. Hyral tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Spun swivels and escapes. A head kick by Spun misses letting Hyral counter with a right hand. Hyral dodges the punch combination from Spun.
Spun misses with a takedown attempt - Hyral sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Hyral shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Spun as he jumps to the side. It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Spun here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man. Hyral tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Hyral fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Spun throws a head kick that misses and Hyral counters by moving into the clinch. Hyral wants to break the clinch but can't.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Spun breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Spun tries to close the distance and clinch but Hyral swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Spun. Spun takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Hyral fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Spun throws a hook to the side of Hyral's head but Hyral sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Spun changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hyral looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Spun creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Hyral sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Spun working away. Spun decides to stand back up. Spun steps back and let's Hyral get back to his feet. Hyral looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Spun is fending him off so far but Hyral persists. Nope, Spun circles away and we're back to standing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hyral tries to clinch but Spun moves away and Spun counters with a left and a right that stings Hyral. Hyral will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Spun misses with a double jab
and Hyral makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Spun really felt that one! Hyral doesn't manage to clinch there - Spun circles away.
Hyral shoots in but doesn't get the takedown so Spun counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Spun with a flurry of punches that miss. Spun gets to his feet - Hyral follows without any prompting. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Hyral fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Spun lands a jab-cross combination. Hyral misses with a takedown attempt and Spun counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Locke Hyral has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Spun throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
And that's the end of the fight! Vladimir Spun showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Spun, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
