PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ichigo Kurosaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Osamu Kawajiri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ichigo Kurosaki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Osamu Kawajiri!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kawajiri shoots in and drives through. Kurosaki sprawls well.
Kawajiri tries a head kick but it misses.
Kawajiri throws a head kick but Kurosaki moves out of range.
Osamu Kawajiri seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kurosaki throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kawajiri's waist but Kawajiri gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kurosaki off to one side.

Kurosaki closes the distance and clinches.
Kawajiri tries to break the clinch but Kurosaki is controlling the position.

Kurosaki works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Kurosaki wants to control from the top but Kawajiri keeps moving.
Kurosaki is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Kawajiri looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kurosaki is one step ahead there.
Kurosaki controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Kurosaki has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Kawajiri is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Kawajiri looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Kawajiri is trying to keep Kurosaki in close.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Kawajiri shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Kurosaki counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Kurosaki.

Kurosaki stays in close to Kawajiri's body and controls the position.
Kawajiri wants to sweep here but Kurosaki controlling him for the moment.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kurosaki passes into half guard.
Kurosaki is taking a breather. Kawajiri says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Kurosaki is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Kurosaki takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


A left and a right from Kawajiri both land. Nice combination.

Kurosaki instigates a clinch.
Kurosaki drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kawajiri pulls his leg out and moves away.

and Kurosaki counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Kawajiri is looking to sweep but instead, Kurosaki has passed into half guard.
Kawajiri tries to kick Kurosaki off but Kurosaki keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Kawajiri is defending against the submission attempts here by Kurosaki.
Kurosaki is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kurosaki thows a huge punch but Kawajiri dodges it nicely.

Kurosaki is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Kawajiri!

Kurosaki get's back to his feet.
Kawajiri throws a left and a right that both miss

and Kurosaki counters with a shoot takedown. Kawajiri fights it but they end up in guard.

Kawajiri wants to stand but Kurosaki is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kawajiri is breathing heavily.
Kurosaki slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kurosaki missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Kawajiri wants to stand up but Kurosaki is controlling him.
Ichigo Kurosaki overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Kurosaki looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Kawajiri really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kurosaki. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kawajiri wants to sweep here but Kurosaki controlling him for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ichigo Kurosaki dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Kurosaki looks for a takedown but Kawajiri sprawls well.
Kawajiri misses with a two punch combination.
Kurosaki fails with the takedown.
Kurosaki fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ichigo Kurosaki. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kawajiri fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kurosaki manages to avoid it.
Kawajiri shoots for a double leg takedown but Kurosaki sprawls well. He's pushed Kawajiri's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kurosaki tries for a takedown but Kawajiri sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Kawajiri misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Kawajiri gets caught flat footed, as Kurosaki shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Kurosaki slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kawajiri can't keep his opponent in guard - Kurosaki advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Kurosaki content to control rather than advance.

Kurosaki is looking for a kimura here.
Kurosaki seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kurosaki looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kawajiri with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Well, if Kurosaki is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Kawajiri looks like he's trying to stand up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ichigo Kurosaki showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kurosaki, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
