Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Austin Diamond! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jerry Herrera! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diamond shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Herrera counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Herrera wants to pass the guard but Diamond is defending well. Herrera is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Herrera trying to control from half guard but Diamond is working away. Herrera is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Diamond has managed to free his arm - good work. Diamond trying to control but Herrera postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Herrera tries to pass to full mount but Diamond defends it. It looks like Herrera is going to stand back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Herrera misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Herrera shoots in but Diamond avoids the takedown attempt easily. Diamond misses with a takedown and Herrera counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Diamond goes for a takedown attempt but Herrera pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Austin Diamond. That's going to take a lot out of him. The fight moves into the clinch position. Herrera stalling against the ropes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Herrera jumps guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Diamond throws an elbow that misses. Herrera uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Diamond's guard. Nice move by Herrera! Diamond has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Herrera is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Diamond. Herrera is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Diamond knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Herrera is looking to take a break and control but Diamond is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Diamond managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Herrera.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jerry Herrera dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Diamond gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Herrera counters with a single leg into guard. Diamond didn't expect that. Herrera works a leg free and moves into half guard. Herrera uses his free foot to push down on Diamond's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Diamond. Herrera looking for a guillotine from mount but Diamond is having none of it. Herrera looking to control but Diamond is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
That's one minute gone in the round. Herrera throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Herrera content just to control the position here. Herrera has hold of Diamond's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Diamond manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
My spies in Nonprofit Vegas Elite $50 ($1000 value) inform me that Herrera has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Herrera takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Herrera stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing. Diamond tries for a takedown but Herrera circles away easily and Herrera counters with a single leg into guard. Diamond didn't expect that. Herrera would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Herrera controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Diamond keeping full guard, as Herrera tries to pass.
Jerry Herrera has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Diamond with a lazy takedown attempt and Herrera counters with a nice low kick that buckles Diamond's knee momentarily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Austin Diamond. That's going to take a lot out of him. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Diamond shoots and misses and Herrera cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Herrera rushes Diamond and presses him up against the ropes. Herrera works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Herrera's corner is telling him to maintain position. Herrera pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Diamond is keeping the position for now. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jerry Herrera showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!
Herrera looking for a takedown here - he's got it. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Diamond keeping moving, preventing Herrera from controlling successfully. Herrera not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Jerry Herrera hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Herrera decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Herrera looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
That's one minute gone in the round. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Jerry Herrera was stalling too much, according to the referee. Diamond drives through with a takedown into Herrera's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Herrera managing to control the position. Austin Diamond has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Diamond throws a strike but Herrera rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Herrera advances to half guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Herrera is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Herrera passes to side control. Herrera works to advance to full mount. Diamond defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Diamond is trying to escape the mount.
The referee warns Diamond that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Herrera wants to finish this one by submission but Diamond is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Herrera. Herrera avoids the attempt from Diamond to control. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Diamond defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Herrera.
And that's the end of the fight! Jerry Herrera comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Herrera has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
