PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gordon Hammet (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gabriel McGowen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hammet comes to the cage accompanied by Finger Eleven - Slow Chemical. McGowen has chosen Control - Kendrick Lamar as his entrance music. Gabriel McGowen will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gabriel McGowen!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick by Hammet misses

and McGowen counters with a head kick that drops Hammet!


Hammet is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
McGowen is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Oh Hammet is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Hammet is wriggling around but McGowen manages to pass to half guard.
Hammet seems to have got his legs back now.
McGowen wants to take a breather but Hammet is having none of it.
McGowen seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Hammet pushes McGowen off looking to stand but McGowen dives back in and keeps control.
McGowen is keen to just control but Hammet is a slippery customer.

McGowen trying to pass the guard but Hammet defending well.

McGowen is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hammet sees it coming and defends easily.
McGowen trying to mount his opponent but Hammet defends it.

McGowen seems to be working for a kimura but Hammet defends the submission attempt.
Hammet won't allow McGowen to pass to mount.

Hammet tries to kick McGowen off but McGowen keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
McGowen tries to pass to full mount but Hammet defends it.

McGowen is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Hammet has managed to free his arm - good work.
Hammet might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
McGowen wants to pass the guard but Hammet is defending well.
McGowen content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

McGowen wants to pass to mount but Hammet is defending the position.
McGowen is keen to just control but Hammet is a slippery customer.
McGowen stops Hammet from getting back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McGowen trying to control the action but Hammet is working from the bottom.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Gabriel McGowen hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Hammet loads up on a big right hand but McGowen slips the punch.

Hammet throws a nice looking combination but McGowen bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
McGowen blocks a head kick by Hammet.
Hammet throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Hammet throws a right and a left that McGowen avoids nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Some bone on bone action there as McGowen checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Hammet throws a sloppy head kick
and McGowen counters with a good low kick that Hammet was not able to check.
We've been told by Hammet's head coaches at HILITE Fighting Club that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Hammet is breathing heavily.
Hammet falls off balance throwing a combination
and McGowen makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gabriel McGowen dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Hammet throws a leg kick

and McGowen counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
McGowen trying to control the position from guard on top but Hammet is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
McGowen showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
McGowen looking to sit in guard and control but Hammet gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Gabriel McGowen has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hammet wants to get up but he can't break McGowen's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
McGowen wants to sweep here but Hammet controlling him for the moment.
Hammet has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Hammet is looking to stand up but McGowen won't let him.

Hammet avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
McGowen pulls Hammet in close to his closed guard and prevents Hammet from doing any damage or advancing position.
McGowen wants to sweep here but Hammet controlling him for the moment.
McGowen manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
McGowen trying to control but he's not successful this time.

A nice elbow there by McGowen.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Hammet is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! McGowen has taken his back!
Hammet is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by McGowen.

McGowen has his opponent's back but Hammet is looking to stand. He manages to get to his feet and shakes off McGowen.
Hammet swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Gabriel McGowen seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Hammet tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hammet misses with a jab, cross combination.
Hammet throws a sloppy head kick and McGowen moves out of range easily.
A head kick by Hammet misses
and McGowen counters with a stiff jab, followed by a cross and an uppercut! That's too much punishment for Hammet to take - he tumbles to the canvas, blood pouring from his nose, barely conscious. That's the end of the fight! Great knockout by McGowen!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:16 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Gabriel McGowen!
After winning the bout, Gabriel McGowen thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
