Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Alexander! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Henry Morgan! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Tiny Johnson and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alexander avoids a punch combination nicely.
Alexander tries to keep at a distance but Morgan has taken the fight into the clinch. Morgan manages to break the clinch.
Alexander on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Alexander seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym. Morgan tries to close the distance and clinch up but Alexander swats him away and circles back towards the center. Alexander shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Morgan manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Morgan wants to get back to his feet but Alexander is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Morgan wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Alexander manages to pass to side control. Morgan wants to get back to his feet.
Alexander thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Morgan's head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alexander looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Morgan looks like he's trying to stand up.
Alexander is controlling the pace.
Alexander's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Alexander has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Morgan is staying active underneath Alexander, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Morgan told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. Alexander throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Morgan is trying to stand.
Alexander seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alexander not landing any meaningful shots this time. Morgan pushes Alexander off looking to stand but Alexander dives back in and keeps control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Alexander working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Alexander thumps the canvas. Alexander is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Morgan sees it coming and defends easily. Alexander controlling the pace. Alexander throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Alexander takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Alexander lands strikes from half guard. Morgan avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Alexander.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Alexander is trying for a kimura here. Morgan looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Alexander wins by kimura!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Paul Alexander! Paul Alexander decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
