Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cordell Conway! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brutus Venancio! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Venancio falls off balance throwing a combination
and Conway counters by moving into the clinch. Conway is looking for a takedown. Conway keeps control of Venancio as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Venancio gets underhooks to prevent Conway's takedown attempt.
Both guys are working to get underhooks. Venancio has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Conway is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Venancio is defending well. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cordell Conway. That's going to take a lot out of him. Venancio has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Conway gets a trip takedown into half guard. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Conway wants to stand up but Venancio is controlling the position.
Venancio looks like he's trying to stand up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Venancio can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's one minute gone in the round. Venancio is looking to get back to full guard here but Conway has managed to pass to side control instead. Venancio bucks up and tries to throw Conway off but instead Conway has got his back! Venancio tries to escape the position.
Venancio is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Venancio trying to control the position but Conway manages to sink in the hooks. Venancio might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Conway haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Conway tries to get the hooks in deep but Venancio pushed the leg off. Venancio holding both Conway 's hands and preventing any damage.
