Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Unit Three (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Riccardo Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Unit Three had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 187.0lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Riccardo Rodriguez has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Riccardo Rodriguez!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Franklyn Lucas and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Three clinches with his opponent.
Rodriguez breaks from the clinch.
Three closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Three wants to stand but Rodriguez is controlling his arm.
Three has knee on belly momentarily but Rodriguez bucks him off and regains half guard.
Three missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Three is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rodriguez is just riding it out for now. Three eventually gives up the hold.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Rodriguez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Three tries to pass the half guard into mount. Rodriguez knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Three in particular looking to stall.

Three works his way into side control.
Three tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Three has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Rodriguez wants to control but Three postures up.

Three takes a little break here. Rodriguez wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Three is trying to move to mount but Rodriguez reverses beautifully and ends up in Three's guard.
Three wants to hit a switch here but Rodriguez passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Three there!
Three wants to control but Rodriguez is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Unit Three dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Three changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rodriguez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

You can see the frustration on Rodriguez's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Three scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Rodriguez to see if he's OK.

Three goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Rodriguez rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Three's guard! Nice work there by Rodriguez!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Three is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Three looking for a sweep. Not yet Three, not yet.
Three lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
Three wants to control from the top but Rodriguez keeps moving.
Three is looking to stand up but Rodriguez won't let him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Three working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Three is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Three postures up in Rodriguez's guard and throws a big left but Rodriguez blocks it.

Unit Three has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Rodriguez tries to clinch but Three is having none of it.
Rodriguez lands with a shot to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Unit Three dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
Three tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Rodriguez defends well and Three ends up having to push Rodriguez into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Rodriguez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Rodriguez ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Three moves away.
Three throws a chopping leg kick but Rodriguez manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Rodriguez misses with an uppercut. Three saw that one coming.
Three tries to close the distance and clinch but Rodriguez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Three shoots in looking for a takedown but Rodriguez manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Three's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Three shoots in and drives through. Rodriguez sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Unit Three. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Three feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Three is looking to pass into half guard but Rodriguez pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Rodriguez is in guard.
Unit Three overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Three is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Three bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rodriguez's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rodriguez is on top in guard.
Three knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rodriguez on the ground.

Three wants to control the position but Rodriguez says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Rodriguez is looking to take a break and control but Three is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Rodriguez working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Three wants to improve his position but Rodriguez is controlling well.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Riccardo Rodriguez has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Rodriguez is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Three gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Three has been working on his balance at Pitbull MMA, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Rodriguez.
Three goes for a takedown in the clinch but Rodriguez prevents it.
Rodriguez wants a takedown but no success here.
Three goes for a takedown attempt but Rodriguez pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Three dives in and grabs Rodriguez's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rodriguez pushes down on Three's head and hops out.
And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Unit Three.
Well Three has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
