Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Unit Five (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Asheesh Patel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Unit Five has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Unit Five seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Unit Five! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Asheesh Patel! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Gregory Folan and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Patel gets a takedown into half guard. Five is trying to maintain the position but Patel is very close to passing his half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Patel sitting and controlling from the half guard. Five manages to get to full guard.
Five has his foot on Patel's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Patel works his way back into a safe position though. Patel takes a decent strike to the side of the head. Patel pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Five is keeping the position for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Five wants to sweep but no luck. Five throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Patel works a leg free and moves into half guard. Five wants to control but Patel is keeping busy and won't allow it. Patel is stalling here. Five is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Patel seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Five has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. Five trying to control the position but Patel is working away. Patel gets back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Five is thwarting Patel's attempts to control the position. Five decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Five throws a hook but Patel avoids it easily. Patel with a poor takedown and Five counters by clinching up. Patel misses with a hook to the ribs.
A frustrated look appears on Five's face as he tries to break the clinch. Five misses with some punches.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Five stops a takedown attempt from Patel.
Five is pressed up against the cage. Patel has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Five down to the mat. Five avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Unit Five has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Asheesh Patel. Five tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Patel paws at him with a jab and circles away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Five fails with an attempt to clinch.
Patel has taken the fight to the clinch.
Five is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Five being controlled against the cage. Five stalling the fight.
Patel keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Five's efforts to push away. Patel goes for a takedown attempt but Five pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Patel misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Patel closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Five works his way to full guard. Good work. Five manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Patel manages to get himself to full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Patel can do anything to dispel that myth. Five wants to stand but Patel is controlling his posture from full guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Patel looking for a sweep. Not yet Patel, not yet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Asheesh Patel will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Patel tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Nice takedown defense from Patel. No joy for Five on that attempt. Five leaves Patel with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. A momentary lapse in concentration from Five enables Patel to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Five manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Patel avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Five wants to get back to his feet but Patel is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Five trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Five manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
That's one minute gone in the round. Patel tries to hold on but Five postures up. Five fails to advance to Patel's back. Five prevents Patel from getting the reversal. Five scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Patel wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back. Patel holding both Five 's hands and preventing any damage. Five looking to break Patel's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Patel remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Five will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Five is hanging on to Patel's back as he tries to escape.
Five avoiding Patel 's attempts to control his hands. Five tries to keep control of the position but Patel is staying busy. Five throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage. Patel tries to escape but Five has the hooks in and won't let him break free. Patel is still trying to improve position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Five is landing with strikes. Patel can't take much more of this. Five is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Patel defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. Five wants to control but Patel is keeping busy. Patel trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble. Patel wants to escape the position.
We've been informed that Patel has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. Five controlling the position well here. Patel rolled but Five kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
I really don't envy Patel right now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Five lands shots from the back. Patel can't escape the position.
Five is looking to control Patel but Patel is wriggling around and keeping busy. Five punches the canvas rather than the man. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Patel is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Patel looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Unit Five dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!
Patel dives in for a single leg takedown but Five sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Five taking a breather. Patel tries to circle away but Five has him pinned against the cage. Patel is trying to pull guard but Five has him pressed against the cage. Patel breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. A head kick misses from Five. Five misses with a kick to the body.
Patel shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Five wants to improve his position but Patel is controlling well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Five is looking to control Patel's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Five avoid being mounted? Five wants to get back to his feet.
Patel with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Patel tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Five.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Patel shoots in looking for a takedown but Five manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Patel's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Unit Five has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Asheesh Patel.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Five shoots in and drives through. Patel sprawls well. Patel throws a half hearted mid kick. Patel drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Five manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Five in particular looking to stall. Five is trying to control. Patel wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Five thows a huge punch but Patel dodges it nicely.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Five trying to control from half guard but Patel is working away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Patel has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Five is working away from the top position though. Patel is defending against the submission attempts here by Five.
Patel looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Five pushes past his half guard into mount! Five trying to control but Patel is having none of it. Patel is looking to improve his position but Five isn't that keen on the idea. Patel really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Five. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Patel in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Five working the ground and pound effectively.
Five is landing with some decent strikes but Patel is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Unit Five overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Patel wants to hold on but Five pushes him away. Patel takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Unit Five. I think Five has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
