11 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dante Gael Roman! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stevens clinches up against the cage. A left hand lands to the body for Stevens.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Roman wants to pass the guard but Stevens is keeping the position. Roman stopping the sweep attempt from Stevens. Roman seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Roman is looking to work some ground and pound but Stevens has wrist control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Roman trying to control but Stevens is working from the bottom.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Stevens scores with a sloppy right hand. Roman should have avoided that one. Stevens misses with a jab, cross combination.

Stevens throws a right and a left that both miss. Roman gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Stevens. Stevens throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Stevens misses with a wild combination.
Stevens closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Stevens lands in his opponent's guard. Roman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Stevens's guard.

He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Stevens stuffs the takedown. Stevens shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Roman napping and manages to drive through into side control! Stevens decides to stand back up. Stevens steps back and let's Roman get back to his feet. Stevens closes the distance and pushes Roman back into the cage. Roman misses with the head strike.
A frustrated look appears on Stevens's face as he tries to break the clinch. Stevens wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Stevens breaks from the clinch.
Stevens closes the distance and clinches. Stevens really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Stevens looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. A head kick misses from Stevens. The fighters circle momentarily. Stevens darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Roman motions for Stevens to come forward. Roman throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. Roman displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Stevens throws out the jab. Roman tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Stevens's elbow. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Roman creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. Stevens breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

We're going to have a standup here because Victor Stevens wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Stevens tries a head kick but it misses.

Stevens swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Good shot there by Roman. Stevens uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Roman. Roman on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Victor Stevens is winning the standup battle so far. Roman misses with a straight left. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Roman can do anything to dispel that myth.
