Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alex James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Hopes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the ring it seems that Alex James has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Alex James seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alex James! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Johnny Hopes! The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Darius Henderson and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! James drives through with a takedown into guard. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. James slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. James looking to pass the guard. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. James content to stall in guard here. James trying to control the position from guard on top but Hopes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Alex James. James fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Hopes, pushing him back against the ropes. James lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
James wants to take a breather but Hopes is having none of it. Still in half guard, James seems content to control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hopes is refusing to be controlled, as James sits in half guard. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. James tries to pass to full mount but Hopes defends it. The fighters are battling for position here. Hopes manages to regain full guard. Nice work. James got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hopes has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, James has managed to get both his arms back between Hopes's legs - danger averted. James trying to control the position from guard on top but Hopes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Hopes working a defensive guard here.
Hopes throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Hopes looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Hopes looks winded! Hopes not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. James is looking to stand up but Hopes won't let him. James is in close to Hopes's body, working some short punches and elbows. Hopes trying to keep a closed guard but James is proving a slippery customer.
Hopes keeping moving, preventing James from controlling successfully. Hopes controls James momentarily but James frees himself. James controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. James throws a sloppy head kick and Hopes moves out of range easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. James tries to clinch up but Hopes circles away and keeps his distance. James throws a left and a right that both miss
and Hopes counters with an inside leg kick. James feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Hopes has a closed guard, preventing James from standing up. Hopes working for a triangle but James defends it easily.
Hopes keeping full guard, as James tries to pass. James scoring with punches to the head and body.
That's four minutes gone in the round. James sitting in guard here, content to control. James postures up.
James gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. James changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hopes looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! James working away. James tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. James wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hopes keeps working. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Alex James dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Hopes keeps the fight on the outside. Hopes tries to keep at a distance but James has taken the fight into the clinch. James successfully pulls guard.
Hopes postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! James is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Hopes, into his guard. Hopes working for a triangle but James defends it easily.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as James accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Hopes is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. James has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Hopes to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! James is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Hopes pulls down on the head and he's put James to sleep! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Johnny Hopes! Johnny Hopes decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
