Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Carter Williams ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Barry Murphy! The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Aafke Stam and Albert Achterberg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Williams with a hook. A swing and a miss from Williams . Williams rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Murphy moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Murphy doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Williams takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Williams looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Williams throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. A slow jab from Williams misses its intended target. Williams fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Nice shot lands for Williams . Williams paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Williams misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Murphy.
Murphy swings away with a leg kick that misses. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Murphy lands a left and a right that send Williams crashing to the mat, dazed. Murphy thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Williams is rocked!
It looks like Michael Carter Williams has been cut. Williams leaves Murphy with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Murphy fails to land the takedown. Murphy shoots in for a double leg but Williams sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Michael Carter Williams has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Barry Murphy. Williams slips a jab and a cross from Murphy.

That's one minute gone in the round. Murphy throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Williams . Murphy tries to clinch up. Williams moves into range and connects with a jab. Williams avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

and Williams cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Sloppy strikes from Williams . Those never looked like landing. Murphy throws a leg kick but Williams sees it coming and checks it nicely. Williams loads up on a big right hand but Murphy slips the punch. Williams tries to clinch but Murphy is having none of it. Murphy is looking to clinch but Williams is avoiding it.
Murphy tried to score with a low kick but Williams checks it. Williams scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Murphy shoots in for a double leg but Williams sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Williams connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Murphy momentarily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Williams fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Murphy. Williams digs a good body shot into Murphy's ribs. Barry Murphy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Murphy takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Williams waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Murphy. Williams slips under a jab. Murphy with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Williams to score with a decent uppercut. Murphy gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Williams . Some wild striking there from Murphy.
Williams fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Murphy looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Williams looks to land a combination but Murphy avoids it well. A combination from Williams does no damage. Murphy blocks a jab. Murphy avoids a punch combination nicely.
Williams jabs Murphy to the body, keeping him at a distance.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Williams lands a jab to the nose. Williams 's jab looks to have found its range, popping Murphy under the eye. Murphy throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Williams stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Murphy throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Williams is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. A jab lands there for Williams . Williams tries to bum rush Murphy with a series of wild strikes but Murphy uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Williams throws a hook to the side of Murphy's head but Murphy sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Williams throws out a loose jab but Murphy uses good head movement to avoid it. Murphy misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Williams misses with a jab, cross combination.
Williams has Murphy up against the ropes in a clinch.
Williams lands a hook that snaps the head of Murphy backwards. Williams breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Williams throws a jab but it's blocked by Murphy. Murphy walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Murphy is trying desperately to land a takedown but Williams is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Murphy. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Williams tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Murphy manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Williams tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Murphy paws at him with a jab and circles away. Murphy dives in and grabs Williams 's left leg, looking for a takedown. Williams pushes down on Murphy's head and hops out. Murphy takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Murphy throws a wild hook but Williams just manages to duck under it and - ooooh! Murphy gets nailed by a brutal uppercut which crumples him back against the ropes! The referee jumps in - Williams raises his hands in celebration and walks away!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Michael Carter Williams ! In his post fight interview, Michael Carter Williams started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
