Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Miguel Hernandez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Franklin James Gatti! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, George Francis and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gatti shoots in for a takedown but Hernandez shows good takedown defense. Gatti fails with a takedown attempt. Gatti changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hernandez tries to avoid it but Gatti manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hernandez to the ground. Hernandez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Miguel Hernandez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Franklin James Gatti. Gatti slips a jab from Hernandez. Hernandez scores with a hook. Hernandez scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Gatti takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Miguel Hernandez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Gatti displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Hernandez throws out the jab. Gatti will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Gatti tries for a takedown but Hernandez sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gatti avoids the body shot from Hernandez.
Good leg kick by Hernandez there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Gatti misses with a takedown and Hernandez counters with a nice double leg into side control. Gatti won't be happy with that. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Hernandez cracks Gatti with a big right hand but Gatti just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Gatti sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Hernandez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gatti missing with punches from the bottom.
Gatti is looking for a sweep. Hernandez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Nice strikes from Hernandez there. Gatti has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hernandez is working away from the top position though. Hernandez is working for a kimura but Gatti is defending it quite comfortably.
Hernandez throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Gatti tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Hernandez has advanced to mount. Uh oh. Hernandez lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Gatti is rocked! Hernandez cracks Gatti with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Miguel Hernandez! After winning the bout, Miguel Hernandez thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
