Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Cleo Mayer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Shlemenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cleo Mayer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alexander Shlemenko! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shlemenko tries to sprawl but Mayer drives through with a takedown into half guard. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Well, if Mayer is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Shlemenko wants to get back to full guard. Mayer is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Shlemenko wants to control but Mayer is keeping busy.
Mayer prevents Shlemenko from improving his position. Shlemenko is refusing to be controlled, as Mayer sits in half guard.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Cleo Mayer just wasn't active enough. Shlemenko swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Shlemenko slips under a jab. Mayer tries to keep at a distance but Shlemenko has taken the fight into the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mayer tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Shlemenko smiles and moves away.
Mayer gets a double leg takedown into Shlemenko's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mayer stands and steps away. Shlemenko gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Shlemenko shoots in but Mayer avoids the takedown attempt easily. Mayer really is a fat lump. Mayer leaves Shlemenko with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Mayer looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mayer throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Shlemenko rushes Mayer and presses him up against the cage. Shlemenko tries for a takedown but Mayer manages to get underhooks.
Cleo Mayer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alexander Shlemenko. Mayer blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Shlemenko fails to pull the fight into his guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Mayer decides to pull guard. Mayer wants to sweep but no luck. Mayer is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mayer is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Shlemenko can't get the takedown.

Shlemenko breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Nice takedown defense from Shlemenko. No joy for Mayer on that attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shlemenko forces Mayer back against the cage and clinches. Shlemenko tries a body shot but Mayer blocks it.
Mayer is trying to pull guard but Shlemenko has him pressed against the cage. Mayer ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Mayer no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Shlemenko wanted to stand there but Mayer had control of the position. Shlemenko must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Shlemenko accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mayer keeping moving, preventing Shlemenko from controlling successfully. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Shlemenko throws a big right hand that misses. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Cleo Mayer dominated that round. That's time! Mayer's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Shlemenko moves into the clinch. Mayer jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Shlemenko walks away with a smile on his face. Mayer gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Shlemenko throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mayer's waist but Mayer gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Shlemenko off to one side. Shlemenko tries a head kick but it misses.

It looks like Cleo Mayer has been cut. Shlemenko tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mayer swivels and escapes. Shlemenko shoots in but no luck this time. Cleo Mayer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alexander Shlemenko. Shlemenko closes the distance and pushes Mayer back into the cage. Mayer jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Shlemenko walks away with a smile on his face. Mayer gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Shlemenko throws a right hand that Mayer ducks under and follows up with a left that Mayer also avoids with ease. Mayer closes this distance looking for a takedown but Shlemenko circles away. Alexander Shlemenko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shlemenko shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Mayer is trying to defend but Shlemenko finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Mayer gets back to full guard.
Shlemenko throws a strike but Mayer rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Shlemenko has a closed guard, preventing Mayer from standing up.

Mayer wanted to stand there but Shlemenko had control of the position. Shlemenko trying to keep a closed guard but Mayer is proving a slippery customer.
Mayer wants to stand and escape but instead Shlemenko has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Shlemenko is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mayer is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mayer has escaped and now he's on top! Mayer wants to stand but Shlemenko has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mayer controlling from the top position. Mayer is looking to stand up but Shlemenko won't let him. Mayer stands up from guard. Let's bang! Horrible takedown attempt by Shlemenko or perhaps it was just good defense by Mayer, which made it look bad. Mayer fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Shlemenko sprawls well initially but Mayer persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Well, if Mayer is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Mayer thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Mayer not landing any meaningful shots this time. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mayer wants to get back to his feet.
Mayer is thwarting Shlemenko's attempts to control the position. Mayer throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mayer tries to stand but can't do so whilst Shlemenko controls his leg. Well, if Mayer is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

That was a close second round but I would say that Cleo Mayer will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Cleo Mayer's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!
Mayer slaps away a takedown attempt from Shlemenko, before circling back to the center of the mat. Shlemenko looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Shlemenko just misses with a punch to the body.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Shlemenko looking to sit in guard and control but Mayer gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Shlemenko keeping moving, preventing Mayer from controlling successfully. Shlemenko pushes Mayer off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Mayer takes a swing at Shlemenko's ribcage but misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A head kick by Mayer misses and Shlemenko counters with an outside leg kick.
Shlemenko gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Mayer wants to stand but Shlemenko is controlling his posture from full guard. Cleo Mayer overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Shlemenko is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Shlemenko is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Shlemenko throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Mayer might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Mayer stands up from guard. Let's bang! Shlemenko clinches up against the cage. Shlemenko successfully pulls guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Mayer wants to control from the top but Shlemenko keeps moving.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Cleo Mayer. Shlemenko getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Mayer throws a push kick but Shlemenko slaps the foot to one side. Shlemenko pulls out of a head kick attempt.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Shlemenko shoots in and drives through. Mayer sprawls well. Alexander Shlemenko has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Cleo Mayer is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Cleo Mayer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alexander Shlemenko. Shlemenko takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Shlemenko throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Cleo Mayer. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mayer, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
