Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kane Velasquez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Don Machete! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Machete bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Velasquez's head.
It looks like Kane Velasquez has been cut. Velasquez keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Machete tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Velasquez was well out of range. Poor timing from Machete. Machete misses with an uppercut. Velasquez saw that one coming. Machete lands a slapping body shot.
Machete avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Velasquez throws an off balance right hand
and Machete counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Machete thuds a left hand into Velasquez's body. Kane Velasquez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Machete slips under a jab. Machete lands with an overhand left. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Machete displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Velasquez throws out the jab. Velasquez bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Machete is not content to let Velasquez control the position. A lull in the action here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Machete is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Machete looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Machete wants to improve his position but Velasquez is controlling well.
Velasquez is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Machete is just riding it out for now. Velasquez eventually gives up the hold. Machete is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Velasquez pulls his head out easily. Machete looking for submissions off his back. Velasquez passes to side control. Velasquez tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Velasquez has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Machete parries the strikes from Velasquez easily there. Velasquez is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Machete to escape.
Machete sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Machete is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Velasquez pulls his head out easily. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Velasquez trying to control from half guard but Machete is working away. Velasquez tries to pass the half guard into mount. Machete knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Machete looking for submissions off his back. Velasquez tries to pass to full mount but Machete defends it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Machete wants to improve his position but Velasquez is controlling well.
Velasquez trying to advance position but Machete counters by regaining guard. Velasquez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Machete has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Velasquez has managed to get both his arms back between Machete's legs - danger averted. Velasquez looking to pass the guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Machete is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Machete working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Velasquez. Velasquez wants to pass the guard but Machete is keeping the position. Velasquez passes Machete's left leg - he's now in half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Machete tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. Machete keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Machete wants to get back to full guard. Velasquez trying to mount his opponent but Machete defends it. This has been an exciting period of action! Machete is pressing down on Velasquez's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Machete is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Velasquez is aware though and is defending well. Velasquez advances to half guard. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Machete looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Machete looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Don Machete dominated that round. The cut man is working on Kane Velasquez's cut. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Velasquez has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Machete finds it's way round the side to connect with Velasquez's head. Velasquez uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Machete.
Velasquez moves out of range as Machete strikes. Machete is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Velasquez rather than just go for the knockout. Velasquez just misses with a punch to the body.
Machete lands the left hand. Machete avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Velasquez takes one on the button. Velasquez ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Machete staying out of range there. Machete looks to land a left hand but Velasquez moved out of range nicely. Machete misses with a hook. Velasquez seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym. Velasquez manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Machete on his heels. He'll look to pass Machete's guard now, I'm sure. This has been an exciting period of action! Velasquez advances position into side control! Machete takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Velasquez looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Machete manages to work his way to half guard, despite Velasquez's best efforts. Machete looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Machete moves into full guard.
Velasquez forces his way into half guard. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Machete looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Machete actively working from the bottom here. Velasquez is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Velasquez trying to pass the guard but Machete defending well. Velasquez is trying to control the action in half guard but Machete is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Velasquez is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Machete! Velasquez is in the full mount, landing strikes. This has been an exciting period of action! Machete is looking to improve his position but Velasquez isn't that keen on the idea. Velasquez landing punches. Velasquez scoring with strikes but Machete is staying in there. Velasquez tries to control but Machete wriggling away. Machete tries to get back to half guard but can't. Velasquez is in the full mount, landing strikes.
It looks like Don Machete has been cut.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Velasquez in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
That has opened up Don Machete's cut even more. Machete is trying desperately to improve position. Velasquez is landing with some decent strikes but Machete is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Machete is rocked!
The cut above Don Machete's eye is starting to cause him problems now. Velasquez trying to control but he's not successful this time. Velasquez is in the full mount, landing strikes. Machete is still in real trouble! Can Velasquez finish him?
Don Machete's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Don Machete's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
