Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nelson Meadows! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Enzo McDoodle! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Jonathan Paton and Eddie Farnsworth.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McDoodle tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Meadows defends well and McDoodle ends up having to push Meadows into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Meadows is trying to drag McDoodle to the mat but McDoodle just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. McDoodle is pressed up against the cage. Meadows has hold of a leg and is looking to drag McDoodle down to the mat. McDoodle avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. McDoodle displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Meadows. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nelson Meadows. That's going to take a lot out of him. Meadows changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. McDoodle looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Meadows tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. Meadows creates some space and throws a big elbow, but McDoodle sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. McDoodle regains half guard. Meadows is just content to waste time from the top position. McDoodle takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. McDoodle is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Meadows might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. McDoodle is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
That's one minute gone in the round. McDoodle controlling the action here. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. McDoodle connects with a nice short shot to Meadows's temple. McDoodle with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Meadows tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. McDoodle wants to work for an arm triangle but Meadows is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
McDoodle slips a nice elbow through Meadows's hands, connecting with Meadows's forehead.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McDoodle passes to side control. McDoodle in side control, just content to control the action for now. McDoodle wants to control but Meadows is keeping him busy. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Meadows is being controlled here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McDoodle lands some shots froms side control. McDoodle remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Meadows is trying to improve his position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Meadows is working hard here to advance position. McDoodle controlling the position from side mount. McDoodle is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Meadows is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McDoodle working the ground and pound from side control. McDoodle controls the position. Meadows takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! McDoodle has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Meadows is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. McDoodle yanks on the arm and Meadows is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by McDoodle.
