Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
48 - 20 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frank Esposito! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
39 - 24 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brian Watson! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Joseph Jones and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Esposito stuffs the takedown. Watson darts in looking for a takedown but Esposito gets double underhooks and turns Watson into the cage. Watson drops down looking for an ankle pick but Esposito pulls his leg out and moves away.
Frank Esposito has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brian Watson. A looping hook to the body misses from Watson. Esposito does a little dance to reset his feet. Watson fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Watson ducks right into an uppercut from Esposito. Esposito tries a low kick but Watson avoids it. Watson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Esposito sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Watson somewhat. Esposito jabs Watson to the body, keeping him at a distance. Esposito looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Esposito displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Watson. Watson keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Watson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Watson looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. Watson is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Esposito moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Esposito is pulling down on Watson's head. It's preventing any offense from Watson, at least for the moment. Watson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Esposito swivels though and keeps the full guard. Watson preventing the sweep.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Watson throwing strikes from guard but Esposito blocks nicely. Watson's corner is telling him to maintain position. Watson pushing down on Esposito's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Watson trying to control the pace. Watson is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Esposito desperately trying to maintain half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ground and pound from Watson. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Watson throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Esposito to regain full guard. Watson missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Watson stopping the sweep attempt from Esposito. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Watson stands up over Esposito, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Watson won't allow Esposito to get back to his feet. Esposito seems keen to control Watson's posture. Watson trying to control the position from guard on top but Esposito is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Watson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Esposito swivels though and keeps the full guard. Esposito is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Watson trying to control but Esposito is working from the bottom.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Watson shoots in for a takedown but Esposito shows good takedown defense. Watson lands with a thumping leg kick.
Watson fails with a takedown attempt. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Esposito misses the shot to the body. Watson ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Brian Watson dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Esposito throws a series of punches but Watson avoids them all with ease. Watson fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Watson shoots in for a takedown but Esposito shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Watson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Frank Esposito has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brian Watson. Esposito throws a mid kick that lands with a slap. Watson bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Watson uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Esposito. Esposito tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Watson was well out of range. Poor timing from Esposito. Nice jab there from Esposito. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Esposito digs a right hand underneath Watson's ribcage. Watson let out a lung full of air as it connected.

It looks like Brian Watson has been cut. A short right hand to the side of the head by Watson. Esposito tries a knee to the head but Watson blocks it.

Esposito tries to throw a body punch but Watson avoids it by throwing Esposito back against the cage. Watson is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. A body shot lands from Esposito.

Watson dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Esposito avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Watson. Esposito is trying to get back to full guard. Esposito is looking to control Watson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Esposito avoid being mounted? Watson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Esposito moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Watson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Esposito is keeping the position for now. Esposito keeping moving, preventing Watson from controlling successfully. Esposito is trying to control the position but Watson postures up.

Esposito throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Esposito thows a body kick. Watson tries to catch it but that hurt him. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Watson tries to close the distance and clinch but Esposito swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Watson throws a series of punches but Esposito avoids them all with ease. Watson shoots in for a takedown but Esposito shows good takedown defense. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Esposito stuffs the takedown. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Watson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Esposito tries to avoid it but Watson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Esposito to the ground. Esposito escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Brian Watson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Watson closes the distance and clinches up with Esposito, looking for a takedown. Watson pushes Esposito against the cage but Esposito circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Esposito defending well as Watson loads up on a big left hand. Esposito explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work. Watson ducks right into an uppercut from Esposito. Esposito thuds his shin into the meat of Watson's side. Esposito connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Esposito moves into the clinch. Watson creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Esposito sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Watson misses with the ground and pound. Watson looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Esposito is avoiding damage well.

Watson has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Esposito tries to hold on but Watson postures up. Esposito is looking to improve his position but Watson isn't that keen on the idea.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Esposito is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Watson trying to control but Esposito is having none of it. Watson unloading with bombs! Esposito tries to lock up and control but Watson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Esposito tries to reverse the position but Watson maintains control. Brian Watson has got the better of the ground game so far. Watson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Esposito tries to get back to half guard but can't.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Esposito is working hard here to advance position. Watson throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Watson misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Watson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Esposito is looking to escape. Esposito is wriggling around trying to escape.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. BOOM! Watson connects with a massive shot to the dome!
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Frank Esposito. I think Esposito has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
