Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Andre Firbino!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Drew Jitsu!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Daniel Cesar and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Firbino throws a head kick but Jitsu moves out of range.

Jitsu gets caught flat footed, as Firbino shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Firbino forces his way into half guard.

Jitsu shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Firbino holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Jitsu tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Jitsu is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Jitsu should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Jitsu is looking to break free of the clinch but Firbino has double underhooks.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Jitsu has eaten all the pies!
Firbino keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Jitsu's efforts to push away.

Jitsu pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Jitsu misses with a takedown

and Firbino counters with a takedown into side control.
Jitsu is looking to reverse the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Firbino will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Jitsu sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Firbino seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Jitsu drops back, looking for a kneebar! Firbino looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Firbino looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Firbino!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Firbino seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Jitsu for as long as he can get away with.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Firbino is taking a breather. Jitsu says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Jitsu looks like he's trying to stand up.

We're going to have a standup here because Andre Firbino wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Jitsu gets caught napping as Firbino dives in and scores a takedown. Jitsu manages to retain guard.

Jitsu throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Firbino escapes and throws Jitsu's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Jitsu tries to buck Firbino off but Firbino is having none of it.
Jitsu is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Firbino's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Firbino is nestled in close to Jitsu, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Firbino is trying to control. Jitsu wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Jitsu is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Firbino pulls his head out easily.

Firbino closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


A head kick misses from Firbino.

Firbino throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Jitsu tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Firbino is in Jitsu's guard.

Jitsu pushes Firbino away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Firbino gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Firbino, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
