PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gary Foolridge (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sergei Lagavulin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Sergei Lagavulin was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Gary Foolridge!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sergei Lagavulin!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lagavulin closes the distance and clinches up with Foolridge, looking for a takedown. Lagavulin pushes Foolridge against the cage but Foolridge circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Lagavulin closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Lagavulin lands in his opponent's guard.
Foolridge avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Foolridge is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Well, if Foolridge is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Foolridge is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Lagavulin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Foolridge is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Foolridge has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Lagavulin off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Lagavulin looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Foolridge is fending him off so far but Lagavulin persists. Nope, Foolridge circles away and we're back to standing.

Lagavulin shoots in and drives through. Foolridge sprawls well.

Foolridge unloads a knee to the mid-section. Lagavulin lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Foolridge has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Lagavulin is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Foolridge goes for a takedown attempt but Lagavulin pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Lagavulin takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Foolridge shoots for a takedown but Lagavulin saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Foolridge is on top in guard.
Lagavulin wants to hit a switch here but Foolridge passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Lagavulin there!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Foolridge looking to control but Lagavulin is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Lagavulin tries to reverse the position but Foolridge maintains control.
Foolridge manages to capitalize on a mistake by Lagavulin to take his back!

Foolridge utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Foolridge can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Lagavulin is looking to escape.
Foolridge manages to capitalize on a mistake by Lagavulin to take his back!

Lagavulin is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Lagavulin is nestled in close to Foolridge, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Lagavulin connects with a nice short shot to Foolridge's temple.

Horrible takedown by Foolridge or perhaps it was just good defense by Lagavulin which made him look bad.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Lagavulin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Foolridge. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Lagavulin stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Foolridge has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Lagavulin manages to get his head free but now Foolridge has transitioned to an armbar! Lagavulin grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Foolridge! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!
