Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Monterrey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Koni Maximus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maximus is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Maui Boy. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Monterrey! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Koni Maximus! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Gwen Towbar and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maximus closes this distance looking for a takedown but Monterrey circles away. Monterrey stuffs the takedown. Maximus shoots in for a double leg but Monterrey sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. John Monterrey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Koni Maximus. Maximus fails with the takedown. Monterrey keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Monterrey keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Maximus misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Maximus changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Monterrey tries to avoid it but Maximus manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Monterrey to the ground. Monterrey escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Maximus looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. That's one minute gone in the round. Maximus content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Maximus wants to lay and pray for a moment but Monterrey keeps working. Monterrey wants to control but Maximus is keeping busy and won't allow it. Maximus is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Monterrey has managed to free his arm - good work. Monterrey is looking to improve his position.
Maximus is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Maximus has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Silverback MMA Academy (Elite + Sauna & 160VM). Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one. Monterrey is pressing down on Maximus's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Monterrey is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Maximus drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Monterrey manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Maximus has Monterrey in his guard. Monterrey trying to control the position from guard on top but Maximus is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Monterrey passes easily into side control. Nice work. You can see the frustration on Maximus's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Monterrey staying calm. Maximus tries to get back to half guard but can't. Monterrey tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Monterrey decides to take the fight back to the feet. Maximus fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Monterrey checks it well. Maximus shoots in looking for a takedown but Monterrey manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Maximus's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Monterrey moves out of range of the body kick. Monterrey throws a shot to the body.
Monterrey misses with a wild body shot. Koni Maximus seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Monterrey stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Monterrey wants it to stay on the feet. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! No luck for Maximus with that takedown attempt. Maximus shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Monterrey as he avoids it easily. Monterrey tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Maximus paws at him with a jab and circles away. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
John Monterrey dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

That's one minute gone in the round. Monterrey breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Monterrey misses with a looping left. Monterrey waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Maximus. Monterrey buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Monterrey is looking to wear down Maximus with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Maximus darts in looking for a takedown but Monterrey gets double underhooks and turns Maximus into the cage. Maximus blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Maximus turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Monterrey is trying to get back to half guard. Monterrey is not content to let Maximus control the position. Monterrey is looking to regain half guard here but Maximus keeps moving and retains side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Maximus thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Monterrey is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Maximus's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Maximus is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Monterrey. Monterrey wants to hold on but Maximus pushes him away. Maximus trying to control but Monterrey is having none of it. Monterrey is looking to get to half guard. Maximus working for a guillotine from mount but Monterrey is in no mood to give up. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Maximus is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Monterrey is surviving well by controlling Maximus's body position as best he can. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Koni Maximus will probably get the nod - 10:9. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Maximus takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Monterrey effectively controlling the action here. Monterrey is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
