PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ranu Tedja (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marius Manole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ranu Tedja!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marius Manole!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Summer Carpenter and Darius Henderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tedja gets tackled into the cage by Manole. Manole maintains the clinch.
Manole wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Tedja has him pressed against the cage.
Manole tries to break free but Tedja pushes him back against the cage.
Tedja tries to land knees in the clinch but Manole avoids the damage to the body.
A right handed body shot lands from Manole.
A frustrated look appears on Manole's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Tedja is stalling here.
Manole keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Tedja's efforts to push away.
Manole lands an elbow that stopped Tedja in his tracks for a moment.
Manole looking to slow down the pace here.

Tedja turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Tedja is looking to take a break and control but Manole is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Tedja tries for a kimura but Manole is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee asks Tedja politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Tedja prefers to stall for the moment though.
Manole tries to escape but Tedja is in control.

Tedja stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Manole shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tedja moves into full guard.
Manole really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tedja. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Tedja is on top in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Manole has control of Tedja's left arm, preventing Tedja from doing any damage.
Tedja postures up.
Tedja not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Tedja drops back looking for a leg! Manole is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Manole manages to kick Tedja off! Tedja jumps back into Manole's guard.
Tedja wants to pass the guard but Manole is keeping the position.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Tedja trying to control the position from guard on top but Manole is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Tedja sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Manole's guard.

Tedja stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Manole darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Tedja is staying active underneath Manole, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Tedja makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Tedja.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Tedja has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Manole has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Tedja has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Manole regains guard immediately.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Tedja is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
We've been hearing good reports from Tedja's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Tedja throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Manole works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tedja won't allow Manole to sweep him here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Tedja is stalling in the full guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ranu Tedja wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Manole walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Tedja checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ranu Tedja dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Manole tried to score with a low kick but Tedja checks it.
Manole thumps Tedja with a low kick.
Marius Manole is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Tedja closes the distance and pushes Manole back into the cage.
Tedja is looking to break free of the clinch but Manole has double underhooks.
Manole lands a nice knee to the body.

Manole gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Tedja regains full guard. Nicely done.
Tedja wants to sweep but no luck.

Tedja is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Manole presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Manole is pressed up against the cage. Tedja has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Manole down to the mat. Manole avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Tedja scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Tedja, as that shot connected.

Tedja clinches up against the cage.
Tedja has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Manole is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Tedja pulls Manole into guard.
Manole won't allow Tedja to sweep him here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Manole would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Tedja working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Manole doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Tedja is tightening it up a little... Manole has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Manole reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Manole taps out! Nice BJJ there by Tedja!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:28 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Ranu Tedja!
