Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jan Egeland! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mingi Tyyp! The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Jeff Smith and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tyyp throws a lazy head kick and Egeland counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Tyyp wants to improve his position but Egeland is controlling well.
Egeland is looking to take a break and control but Tyyp is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Egeland wants to stand up but Tyyp is controlling the position.
Egeland seems to be working for a kimura but Tyyp defends the submission attempt. Egeland seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Egeland is trying to work for a kimura but Tyyp is defending well.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Egeland lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Egeland has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Egeland drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Egeland jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Egeland is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at The Boom Boom Room that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet. Egeland trying to control but Tyyp is working from the bottom. Egeland controlling from the top position. Tyyp really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Egeland. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Tyyp doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Egeland in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Egeland postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Egeland throws a big elbow that misses. Egeland lands a couple of decent looking shots. Egeland cracks Tyyp with a solid left hand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tyyp is trying to control the position but Egeland postures up. Egeland thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Egeland is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Tyyp is just riding it out for now. Egeland eventually gives up the hold. Tyyp throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Tyyp is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Egeland not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Tyyp with the active half guard here but Egeland passes nicely into side control. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Tyyp is trying to buck Egeland off. Tyyp takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jan Egeland dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Egeland fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Tyyp avoids it really well and circles away. Egeland closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Egeland missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Egeland is working for a kimura but Tyyp is defending it quite comfortably.
Egeland is looking for a kimura but Tyyp is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Egeland to get the leverage. Tyyp has a hand on Egeland's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Egeland takes advantage of the position though and mounts him! Egeland blocks Tyyp's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. Egeland working Tyyp over with strikes here. Egeland looking for a guillotine from mount but Tyyp is having none of it. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Tyyp is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Egeland lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Egeland has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Tyyp's face.
Tyyp tries to lock up and control but Egeland gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Egeland prevents Tyyp from getting the reversal. Egeland is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Tyyp can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Tyyp is looking to improve his position but Egeland isn't that keen on the idea. Egeland landing strikes, looking to finish! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Egeland landing shots from mount. Egeland is really dominating this fight.
