PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eric Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Travos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eric Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Paul Travos!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Lou da Vinci and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silva has closed the distance and engaged Travos in a clinch.

Silva pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Silva throws a series of strikes that have Travos backpedaling.


It looks like Paul Travos has been cut.
Travos moves out of range as Silva throws a body kick.
Silva shoots in looking for a takedown but Travos manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Silva's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Silva tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Travos swivels and escapes.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Silva.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Silva shoots for a double leg takedown but Travos sprawls well. He's pushed Silva's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eric Silva. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Good leg kick by Silva there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Silva throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Travos's waist but Travos gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Silva off to one side.
Silva is breathing heavily.

Silva gets in close and instigates a clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Silva's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Silva fails with the takedown
and Travos counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Silva thinking.
Silva dives in for a single leg takedown but Travos sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Silva pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Travos stalling in the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Silva lands an elbow inside that Travos shrugs off.
Travos is pushing Silva up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Silva is looking to break free of the clinch but Travos has double underhooks.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Travos lands with a left to the head.
Travos gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Silva.
Travos pressing his opponent against the cage.
A head punch on the inside from Travos fails to land.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Travos takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Paul Travos.

Travos shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Silva is trying to defend but Travos finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Nice strikes from Travos there.
Travos is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Silva knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Travos on the ground.
Travos looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Silva with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Travos has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Silva defend it? Travos steps over the head and cranks it - Silva is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Travos!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Paul Travos!
Paul Travos opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
