PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Luan Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anthony Pettis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pettis has chosen Showtime- Tum Tum Ft. Jim Jones as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Luan Alves!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anthony Pettis!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Mauricio Rocha and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pettis tries to score a power double leg takedown but Alves sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pettis somewhat.
Pettis tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Alves lands a head kick!
Pettis misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Pettis tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Alves defends well and Pettis ends up having to push Alves into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Luan Alves has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anthony Pettis.
Alves is pressed up against the cage. Pettis has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Alves down to the mat. Alves avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Alves lands a big head kick that sends Pettis tumbling to the mat! Alves takes a step backwards and waves Pettis back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Pettis is rocked!


It looks like Anthony Pettis has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Alves keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Pettis is still on wobbly legs! Can Alves finish him?
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Pettis.
Pettis seems to have recovered his senses.
Pettis will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Pettis blocks the body kick.
Pettis shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Alves pinned against the cage. Alves gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Alves connects with an inside leg kick.

Pettis closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Pettis in side control, throwing shots but Alves defends.
Pettis misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Alves is trying to buck Pettis off.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Pettis connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Alves some visible discomfort.

Pettis is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Alves knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Alves is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Pettis has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Pettis has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Alves takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Pettis is chipping away with strikes.

Alves is trying to get back to his feet.
Pettis scores with a couple of short elbows.
Alves tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Pettis with shots to the head and body - Alves looks very uncomfortable down there.
Pettis lands a big elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Alves wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

Alves on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Alves tries to get out of the position.

Pettis lands a big shot to the head and Alves winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Anthony Pettis!

Anthony Pettis decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
