Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Igor Wietrzny! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Jamison Freidrichs! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Darius Henderson and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wietrzny paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Wietrzny throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Wietrzny defending well as Freidrichs loads up on a big left hand. Wietrzny scores with a leg kick.
Wietrzny throws a lazy right hand but Freidrichs sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Freidrichs defending well as Wietrzny loads up on a big left hand. Wietrzny lands with a shot to the body. Freidrichs takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Freidrichs misses with an uppercut
and Wietrzny counters with a one-two to the body. We've been hearing reports that Wietrzny has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wietrzny throws a sloppy head kick and Freidrichs moves out of range easily. Wietrzny misses with a double jab.
Wietrzny closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Freidrichs did well to prevent Wietrzny getting side control. Freidrichs is looking for a sweep. Wietrzny is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Wietrzny is working for a kimura but Freidrichs is defending it quite comfortably.
Freidrichs manages to get to full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Freidrichs can do anything to dispel that myth. Freidrichs is controlling Wietrzny's posture.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wietrzny avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Wietrzny trying to control the position from guard on top but Freidrichs is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Wietrzny is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Freidrichs is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Wietrzny is really struggling to control Freidrichs but he's trying to hold on to the position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Igor Wietrzny. Freidrichs showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Wietrzny.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A combination from Wietrzny does no damage. Wietrzny scores with a nice strike. Ouch! a nice leg kick from Wietrzny, right into the meat.
Wietrzny moves in looking to clinch but Freidrichs pushes him off. Freidrichs has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Wietrzny finds it's way round the side to connect with Freidrichs's head. Wietrzny lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wietrzny with a body punch. A glancing blow. Wietrzny takes the fight into the clinch. Wietrzny lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
It looks like Jamison Freidrichs has been cut. Wietrzny lands a nice knee to the body. Wietrzny gets underhooks to prevent Freidrichs's takedown attempt.
This has been an exciting period of action! A right hook to the body lands for Wietrzny.
Wietrzny lands a nice knee to the body. A frustrated look appears on Freidrichs's face as he tries to break the clinch. Freidrichs has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Wietrzny jumps guard and drags Freidrichs to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Freidrichs must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Wietrzny throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Wietrzny pulls Freidrichs in to control the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Wietrzny counters with a lovely shot to the body. Igor Wietrzny is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Wietrzny scores with a one two! Freidrichs had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Wietrzny lands a right hook to the body.
Wietrzny moves into range and connects with a jab. Some wild striking there from Wietrzny.

That's one minute gone in the round. Freidrichs is trying to control but can't.
Wietrzny wants to free his trapped foot but Freidrichs is holding on for dear life with his legs. Wietrzny throwing shots but Freidrichs is blocking nicely. Freidrichs is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Wietrzny is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Freidrichs has managed to free his arm - good work. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wietrzny is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Freidrichs is refusing to be controlled, as Wietrzny sits in half guard. Freidrichs is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Wietrzny is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Freidrichs has managed to free his arm - good work. Freidrichs wants to get back to full guard but Wietrzny has passed into side control. Freidrichs is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Freidrichs is trying to buck Wietrzny off.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Freidrichs manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Freidrichs pushes Wietrzny off but Wietrzny dives into side control.
Wietrzny trying to control the position but Freidrichs is working away. Wietrzny tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Wietrzny is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Freidrichs is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Wietrzny thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Freidrichs tries to improve position but can't.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wietrzny looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Freidrichs manages to work his way to half guard, despite Wietrzny's best efforts. Wietrzny is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Freidrichs gets back to full guard.
Wietrzny missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Freidrichs wants to stand up but Wietrzny is controlling him. Wietrzny trying to control the position from guard on top but Freidrichs is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Wietrzny drops back, looking for a kneebar! Freidrichs looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Freidrichs looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Freidrichs! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Freidrichs takes one to the side of the head.
Freidrichs takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Wietrzny tests Freidrichs's chin there with a solid looking shot. Wietrzny lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Igor Wietrzny is winning the standup battle so far.

Jamison Freidrichs is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Freidrichs throws a right and a left that Wietrzny avoids nicely. Wietrzny rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Freidrichs moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Wietrzny uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Freidrichs. Nice sprawl there from Freidrichs as Wietrzny shoots in. Wietrzny takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Freidrichs swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Jamison Freidrichs has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. A looping hook to the body misses from Freidrichs. Wietrzny does a little dance to reset his feet. Wietrzny connects with a body shot that sends Freidrichs's belly button to the back. Wietrzny misses with a jab, cross combination.
Wietrzny connects with a good right hand that stumbles Freidrichs. Freidrichs circles away out of range and recomposes himself. A lazy left from Freidrichs finds it's target. Wietrzny connects with a crisp jab.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Freidrichs on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Wietrzny throws a right and a left that Freidrichs avoids nicely. Wietrzny lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Wietrzny feints and then cracks Freidrichs's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Freidrichs down. Freidrichs throws a leg kick but Wietrzny sees it coming and checks it nicely. A big left from Freidrichs misses.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Freidrichs misses with a left hand and Wietrzny makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Igor Wietrzny is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Wietrzny misses with a takedown attempt - Freidrichs sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Wietrzny takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Wietrzny fails in his attempt to clinch. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Wietrzny feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Freidrichss jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Freidrichs throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Wietrzny counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
And that's the end of the fight! Igor Wietrzny showed his dominance in that final round. Well Wietrzny has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
