PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bob Acton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kogaratsu Masamoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Bob Acton has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Bob Acton seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bob Acton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kogaratsu Masamoto!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Wesley Smith and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Masamoto closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Acton wants to control but Masamoto is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Acton regains full guard. Nicely done.
Acton is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Masamoto is looking for a sweep. Acton is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Acton is thwarting Masamoto's attempts to control the position.
Acton wants to lay and pray for a moment but Masamoto keeps working.
Acton has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Masamoto is squirming around, avoiding Acton's attempts to control the action.
Acton landing strikes from the mount and Masamoto is in trouble!
Masamoto really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Acton. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Acton has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Acton has hold of Masamoto's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Masamoto manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Masamoto is trying to escape the mount.
Acton fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Acton has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Masamoto's face.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Acton with shots to the head and body - Masamoto looks very uncomfortable down there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Masamoto is desperately trying to improve his position but Acton has a good base and remains in mount.
Acton can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Masamoto is looking to escape.
Acton wants to take his opponent's back but Masamoto doesn't allow it.

Acton is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Masamoto to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Masamoto shrugs it off.

Acton looking for a guillotine from mount but Masamoto is having none of it.
Acton wants to control the pace but Masamoto is squirming around nicely.
Masamoto is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Acton trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Acton is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Masamoto wants to control his opponent's hands but Acton gets his hands free.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Acton scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Masamoto is looking for a way out.
You can see the frustration on Masamoto's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Acton takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Acton fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Acton closes the distance and clinches up with Masamoto, looking for a takedown. Acton pushes Masamoto against the cage but Masamoto circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Acton gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Masamoto to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Masamoto stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Acton swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Masamoto would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Acton is pulling down on Masamoto's head to control his posture.

Masamoto drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Masamoto jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Acton has control of Masamoto's left arm, preventing Masamoto from doing any damage.

Acton has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Masamoto can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Acton has his foot on Masamoto's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Masamoto works his way back into a safe position though.

Acton is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Kogaratsu Masamoto wasn't active enough on the ground.
Masamoto tries to close the distance and clinch up but Acton swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Acton fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bob Acton. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Masamoto closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Acton's guard.

Acton is looking for a triangle but Masamoto pushes his legs off easily.

Masamoto must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Acton has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Acton tries to land a sweep but no joy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Acton dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Acton dives in for a single leg takedown but Masamoto sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Masamoto tries to stall but Acton uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Masamoto is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Acton defends well.

Masamoto takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Masamoto tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Masamoto closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Acton did well to prevent Masamoto getting side control.

Acton is controlling Masamoto's trapped leg to prevent Masamoto from advancing to side control.
Acton makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Acton.
Acton lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
Acton passes Masamoto's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Acton lands with a punch from half guard.
Acton content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Bob Acton overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Masamoto is trying to escape the mount but Acton keeps good control and instead manages to take Masamoto's back.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Acton has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Masamoto is in real trouble here. Acton gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Masamoto is tapping out! Acton wins by rear naked choke!
