Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Darwin Kane! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Aleksey Petrov! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kane changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Petrov looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Kane wants to control but Petrov is keeping him busy. Petrov can't do much from the bottom here. Petrov pushes Kane away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Kane gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Petrov tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kane wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Petrov tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad. Petrov is desperately trying to improve his position but Kane has a good base and remains in mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kane throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. Petrov gets back to half guard. Kane slips a nice elbow through Petrov's hands, connecting with Petrov's forehead. Petrov has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kane is working away from the top position though. Petrov is trying to get back to full guard. Petrov moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kane trying to control but Petrov is working from the bottom. Kane preventing the sweep.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Darwin Kane wasn't doing enough on the ground. Nice takedown defense from Petrov. No joy for Kane on that attempt. A momentary lapse in concentration from Kane enables Petrov to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Kane manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Petrov won't allow Kane to get back to his feet. Petrov trying to control but Kane is working from the bottom. Petrov chips away with some ground and pound. Petrov is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Petrov trying to control the position from guard on top but Kane is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Petrov postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Petrov stops Kane from standing up. Petrov missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Kane wants to stand up but Petrov is controlling him. Petrov trying to control but Kane is working from the bottom. Petrov is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Aleksey Petrov wasn't active enough on the ground. Petrov gets a double leg takedown into Kane's guard. Kane working a defensive guard here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Petrov missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Kane controls Petrov momentarily but Petrov frees himself. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Aleksey Petrov dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Petrov works Kane's body with a nice hook. Petrov scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Petrov scoring with punches from side control. Kane tries to escape but Petrov is in control. Kane tries to buck Petrov off but Petrov is having none of it. Petrov trying to control the position but Kane is working away. A lull in the action here as Petrov stalls from top position. Kane struggling a bit here. Kane is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Petrov tries to move to mount but Kane blocks the move with his legs. Petrov throwing strikes but Kane manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control! Petrov looks to move to half guard but instead Kane has passed into mount! Damn! Petrov tries to lock up and control but Kane gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kane wants to control the pace but Petrov is squirming around nicely. Petrov tries to hold on but Kane pushes him away. Kane tries to control but Petrov wriggling away. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Petrov tries to lock up and control but Kane gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Petrov tries to reverse the position but Kane maintains control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Petrov tries to hold on but Kane pushes him away.
Aleksey Petrov has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Kane shoots in looking for a takedown. Petrov tries to sprawl out of it but Kane keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Petrov manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Kane pushes Petrov up against the cage in a clinch. Petrov wants the takedown. Kane is fighting it off but Petrov persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Kane's guard against the cage. Aleksey Petrov has got the better of the ground game so far. Kane wants to get back to his feet but Petrov is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Kane not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Petrov stays in close to Kane's body and controls the position. Kane pulls Petrov in to control the position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Darwin Kane. Petrov looking for a takedown here - he's got it. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Petrov trying to control the position from guard on top but Kane is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Petrov throwing strikes from guard but Kane blocks nicely. Petrov trying to control but Kane is working from the bottom. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Petrov is looking to work some ground and pound but Kane has wrist control. Kane is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Petrov is controlling him. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Aleksey Petrov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!
Petrov has taken the fight to the clinch.
Petrov gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Petrov pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kane is keeping the position for now. Petrov is stalling in the full guard. Kane had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Petrov defends it easily. Kane wants to stand but Petrov is controlling the position. Kane keeping moving, preventing Petrov from controlling successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kane is looking to stand up but Petrov isn't so interested in that idea. Petrov tries to free his leg and advance position but Kane is retaining full guard. Petrov throws a big right hand that misses. Petrov is working Kane over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Kane is trying to hold Petrov in close to prevent damage but Petrov has managed to pass into half guard.
Petrov not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Kane is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Kane wants to get back to his feet.
Petrov not doing much here.

Petrov seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kane does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Petrov throws a strike but Kane avoids it easily and moves to full guard. Petrov showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Petrov trying to control but Kane is working from the bottom.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Aleksey Petrov hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Kane gets caught flat footed, as Petrov shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kane pulls Petrov in close to his closed guard and prevents Petrov from doing any damage or advancing position. Kane is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Petrov is controlling him. Petrov sitting in guard here, content to control. Kane is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Petrov wants to pass the guard but Kane is keeping the position.
We're going to have a standup here because Darwin Kane wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Petrov bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Petrov scoring with punches from side control. Kane is trying to control Petrov's posture but Petrov avoids it. Petrov working the ground and pound from side control. Kane wants to get back to his feet. You can see the frustration on Kane's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Petrov wants to control but Kane is keeping him busy. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Petrov wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kane, who protects the arm well. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Kane trying to remain calm as Petrov controls from the top position.
And that's the end of the fight! Aleksey Petrov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Petrov has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
