PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Raekwon The Chef (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Toshi Matoshin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The Chef comes to the cage accompanied by Raekwon - Wu-Gambinos. Matoshin has chosen Mortal Kombat theme as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Toshi Matoshin was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Raekwon The Chef!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Toshi Matoshin!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Steve Smith and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Matoshin fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging The Chef to the ground. Matoshin is now in The Chef's guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
The Chef keeping moving, preventing Matoshin from controlling successfully.
Matoshin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. The Chef swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The Chef not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Matoshin won't allow The Chef to sweep him here.
Matoshin wants to control from the top but The Chef keeps moving.
Matoshin might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control The Chef haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Matoshin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. The Chef swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Matoshin is looking to pass into half guard but The Chef pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now The Chef is in guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

The Chef tries to clinch up but Matoshin circles away and keeps his distance.

The Chef lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Matoshin looks to land a left hand but The Chef moved out of range nicely.
The Chef ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
The Chef needs to keep his hands up - Matoshin had a free shot at his head there.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Matoshin uses good head movement to avoid the hook from The Chef.

Matoshin throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

The Chef throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Matoshin loads up on a big right hand but The Chef slips the punch.
Matoshin throws a front kick aimed at The Chef's knee but The Chef avoids it well.
Matoshin swats away the attempt to clinch by The Chef.
The Chef tries to land a front kick but Matoshin steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Matoshin takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Both fighters circling a little - The Chef finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Matoshin fails with the takedown.
The Chef goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
The Chef takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

The Chef ducks right into an uppercut from Matoshin.
Matoshin misses with a leg kick
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Matoshin scores with a jab to the jaw.
Matoshin slips under a jab.
Toshi Matoshin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Matoshin walks into a left hand.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Donk. Matoshin catches The Chef right on the button with a cross.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The Chef throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Matoshin sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Matoshin looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

The Chef fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Matoshin manages to avoid it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Matoshin cracks The Chef with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Matoshin takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Matoshin throws a body punch but The Chef moves out of range.
The Chef throws a jab but it's blocked by Matoshin.
The Chef fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Matoshin checks it well.
Matoshin shoots for a double leg takedown but The Chef sprawls well. He's pushed Matoshin's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Matoshin rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but The Chef moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Matoshin stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from The Chef.
The Chef doesn't manage to clinch there - Matoshin circles away.
Matoshin has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Matoshin closes the distance and clinches up with The Chef, looking for a takedown. Matoshin pushes The Chef against the cage but The Chef circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts The Chef, as that shot connected.
A punch lands to the side of The Chef 's head but he takes it in his stride.

The Chef goes for a high kick. It partially lands.


It looks like Toshi Matoshin has been cut.
Matoshin has a takedown stuffed.
Matoshin on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Matoshin throws a lazy right hand but The Chef sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
The Chef looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
The Chef throws the left hand but Matoshin avoids the punch easily.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Raekwon The Chef will probably get the nod.

That's time! The Chef's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!


The Chef turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Matoshin lands a really nice looking cross but The Chef seems unphased.
The Chef throws a leg kick but Matoshin sees it coming and checks it nicely.

The Chef takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

The Chef feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Matoshin's calf.
The Chef defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Matoshin.

Matoshin feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The Chef controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The Chef slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Raekwon The Chef wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Matoshin lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and The Chef has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from The Chef and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

The Chef connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Matoshin's hands.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Raekwon The Chef decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
