Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Derek Riggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michel Rodalgo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Rodalgo's choice of entrance music: Ace of Spades - By Motorhead. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 30 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Derek Riggs!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 29 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Michel Rodalgo!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodalgo throws a solid leg kick but Riggs takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Rodalgo.
Riggs with a nice cross.

Riggs looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Rodalgo is looking to control Riggs's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rodalgo avoid being mounted?
Riggs thows a huge punch but Rodalgo dodges it nicely.

Riggs prevents Rodalgo from improving his position.
Riggs wants to free his trapped foot but Rodalgo is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Rodalgo looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Riggs is thwarting Rodalgo's attempts to control the position.
Rodalgo wants to improve his position but Riggs is controlling well.
Riggs not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Rodalgo is positioning himself well to prevent Riggs advancing to mount.

Rodalgo trying to hold on to Riggs's head to control him but Riggs postures up.
Riggs looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Rodalgo with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Riggs thows a huge punch but Rodalgo dodges it nicely.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Riggs connects with a nice short shot to Rodalgo's temple.

Rodalgo has his foot on Riggs's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Riggs works his way back into a safe position though.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Riggs trying to control the position from guard on top but Rodalgo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Riggs avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Rodalgo keeping moving, preventing Riggs from controlling successfully.
Riggs is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Riggs's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Riggs accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Rodalgo looking for a guillotine here but Riggs defends easily.
Riggs landing with the ground and pound.
Riggs is looking to work some ground and pound but Rodalgo has wrist control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rodalgo controls Riggs momentarily but Riggs frees himself.
Rodalgo is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Riggs got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rodalgo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Riggs has managed to get both his arms back between Rodalgo's legs - danger averted.

Riggs wants to take a breather but Rodalgo is having none of it.
Rodalgo moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Rodalgo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Riggs defends well.
Rodalgo tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Rodalgo had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Riggs defends it easily.
Riggs is looking to work some ground and pound but Rodalgo has wrist control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Riggs is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Riggs sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Rodalgo's guard.
Riggs lands strikes from half guard.
Rodalgo has his hands clasped together around Riggs's back. He's all about the action.
Riggs is trying to control. Rodalgo wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Rodalgo has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Riggs. Oh but Rodalgo has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Riggs goes limp - he's gone! Rodalgo jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Michel Rodalgo!
