PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jake Lamotta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charles Martel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Lamotta might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to yes. Charles Martel has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Jake Lamotta's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 45 - 19 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jake Lamotta!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 50 - 16 - 0, fighting out of London, Charles Martel!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lamotta connects with a solid leg kick.
Lamotta tries to close the distance and clinch but Martel swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Lamotta swings away with a leg kick that misses.
A combination from Lamotta does no damage.
Lamotta avoids the body shot from Martel.
Lamotta lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Lamotta on the wrong end of a nice hook.

Martel instigates a clinch.
Lamotta lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Martel backwards.
Lamotta lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Martel has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Martel pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Lamotta slips a jab from Martel.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Lamotta lands a nice leg kick that just misses Martel's sensitive parts.
Jake Lamotta seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Martel throws a leg kick but Lamotta sees it coming and moves out of range.
Lamotta misses with a takedown attempt - Martel sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Lamotta changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Martel tries to avoid it but Lamotta manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Martel to the ground. Martel escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake Lamotta. That's going to take a lot out of him.

A short body shot lands from Martel as the two fighters clinch.

Lamotta tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
A frustrated look appears on Lamotta's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Lamotta tries to pull guard but Martel holds him up against the cage and eventually Lamotta drops back down to his feet.
Martel misses with a hook to the ribs.
Martel scores with an uppercut up the middle.

Martel lands with a left to the head.

I was talking to Lamotta's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Lamotta changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Martel fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Lamotta uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Martel.

Lamotta pivots, looking for a leg kick but Martel is out of range and Lamotta settles back down.
Martel just misses with a punch to the body.
Lamotta throws a jab but it's blocked by Martel.
Lamotta jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Lamotta misses the shot to the body.
Oh Lamotta is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Martel misses with a wild body shot.
Lamotta seems to have got his legs back now.
Martel misses with a wild combination.
A looping hook to the body misses from Martel. Lamotta does a little dance to reset his feet.
Martel is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Martel misses with a kick to the body.
Martel ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Lamotta moves away.
Lamotta blocks a head kick by Martel.

Lamotta scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Martel preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Martel tries to roll over but Lamotta keeps him under control.
Lamotta trying to control from half guard but Martel is working away.

Lamotta has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Martel defend it? Lamotta steps over the head and cranks it - Martel is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Lamotta!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jake Lamotta!

Charles Martel was interviewed post fight and said 'My opponent was the better man tonight but that doesn't mean there's no after party. Come on down to the Spearmint Rhino, first lap dance is on me!'.
