PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cosh Boy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Sapp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cosh Boy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 23 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Bob Sapp!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Alec Ball and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sapp leaves Boy with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Boy drives through with a takedown into Sapp's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sapp wants to stand but Boy is controlling the position.
Sapp utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Sapp is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Boy wants to control from the top but Sapp keeps moving.
Boy has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Boy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sapp swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Boy accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Boy shoots for a double leg takedown but Sapp sprawls well. He's pushed Boy's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Boy throws a chopping leg kick but Sapp manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Sapp displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Boy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cosh Boy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Boy uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Sapp.
Boy gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Sapp counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Sapp connects with a looping right hand.


It looks like Cosh Boy has been cut.
Nice defenses there by Boy.
Boy has been working on his boxing with his coaches at EUOLUCAO MMA in the buildup to the fight.
Boy moves away from the strike by Sapp.
Boy fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Sapp displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Boy throws out the jab.
Sapp stuffs the takedown.
Boy throws a jab when Sapp was well out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd cheers as Sapp lands an impressive looking overhand right. Boy doesn't seem phased though.
Sapp throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Boy sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Boy closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Sapp quickly recovers to half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Boy trying to control from half guard but Sapp is working away.
Boy tries to pass to full mount but Sapp defends it.
Boy stops Sapp from getting back to his feet.
Boy is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Boy throws a strike but Sapp rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Boy is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Boy had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sapp defends it easily.
Boy looking for a sweep. Not yet Boy, not yet.
Sapp missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Sapp wants to get up but he can't break Boy's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Boy manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sapp manages to get himself to full guard.

Boy looking to pass the guard.
Sapp is looking to stand up but Boy isn't so interested in that idea.
Boy is looking to work some ground and pound but Sapp has wrist control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sapp wants to stand up but Boy is controlling him.
Boy trying to control the position from guard on top but Sapp is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Boy won't allow Sapp to get back to his feet.

Boy is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Sapp is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Sapp has escaped and now he's on top!

Boy looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sapp is one step ahead there.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Boy is trying to control the position but Sapp postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Bob Sapp will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Cosh Boy's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Boy slips a jab and a cross from Sapp.
Sapp tests Boy's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Boy fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Sapp fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Boy manages to avoid it.

Boy shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Boy wants to take a breather but Sapp is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Sapp wants to get back to his feet.
Boy is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Sapp!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Boy punishing his opponent with strikes.


It looks like Bob Sapp has been cut.
Boy throws some wild stikes that Sapp manages to avoid easily.
Sapp is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Boy goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Sapp is on top in guard.
Boy is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Boy not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Boy is keen to just control but Sapp is a slippery customer.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Boy looking for a submission but Sapp manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.
Boy trying to control the position from guard on top but Sapp is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Boy passes into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boy throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Boy uses his free foot to push down on Sapp's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Sapp.
Sapp avoids a series of strikes thrown by Boy.
Boy looking to finish Sapp with some ground and pound. This is bad for Sapp!
Boy putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!


Sapp is rocked!
Cosh Boy overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Boy wants to finish this one by submission but Sapp is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Boy.
Sapp is still in real trouble! Can Boy finish him?
Boy loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Sapp scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Boy land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Boy stands and salutes the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cosh Boy!
During a confident post fight interview, Cosh Boy thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
