PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Santiago Palmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Drunken Hermit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Palmer comes to the cage accompanied by DMX - X gon‘ give it to ya. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Santiago Palmer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Drunken Hermit!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Gwen Towbar and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Palmer shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hermit as he avoids it easily.
Hermit dives in and grabs Palmer's left leg, looking for a takedown. Palmer pushes down on Hermit's head and hops out.
Hermit looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Palmer tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hermit defends well and Palmer ends up having to push Hermit into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Hermit pulls Palmer into guard.
Palmer is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Hermit is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Palmer slaps away a takedown attempt from Hermit, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Palmer has been working on his balance at 11th Planet MMA, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Hermit.
Hermit is trying hard to land a takedown here. Palmer sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Santiago Palmer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Drunken Hermit.
Palmer fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hermit avoids it really well and circles away.
Palmer shoots in looking for a takedown but Hermit manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Palmer's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Hermit goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Palmer rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Hermit's guard! Nice work there by Palmer!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Palmer slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hermit is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Drunken Hermit dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Palmer tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Hermit closes the distance and clinches up with Palmer, looking for a takedown. Hermit pushes Palmer against the cage but Palmer circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Palmer shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hermit pinned against the cage. Hermit gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Hermit has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Palmer throws a low kick, looking for Hermit's leg but Hermit calmly moves out of range.

Hermit fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Palmer to the ground. Hermit is now in Palmer's guard.
Hermit in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Hermit is working Palmer over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Hermit tries to free his leg and advance position but Palmer is retaining full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Palmer is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Hermit would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Hermit wants to control from the top but Palmer keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Palmer shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hermit sprawls well. Hermit wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Palmer gets slowly back to his feet.
Hermit tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Palmer defends well and Hermit ends up having to push Palmer into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Palmer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Hermit blocks a head kick by Palmer.
Horrible takedown attempt by Hermit or perhaps it was just good defense by Palmer, which made it look bad.

Hermit is breathing heavily.

Palmer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hermit swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hermit tries to score a power double leg takedown but Palmer sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hermit somewhat.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Palmer throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Palmer swings for the body but Hermit moves out of range.

Palmer closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Palmer lands in his opponent's guard.
Palmer has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Palmer wants to pass the guard but Hermit is keeping the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Palmer has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Palmer throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Hermit tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Palmer is in Hermit's guard.
Palmer is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Palmer passes Hermit's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Palmer thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Hermit is trying to get back to full guard.

Hermit takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Palmer controlling the pace.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Well Palmer has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
