Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vinny Veechi!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Francisco Frankelstein!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Paulo Santos and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Frankelstein will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Frankelstein looks to land a right hand but Veechi moved out of range.

Veechi fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Frankelstein sprawls well initially but Veechi persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Frankelstein slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Frankelstein really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Veechi. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Veechi stops Frankelstein from standing up.

Veechi wants to take a breather but Frankelstein is having none of it.

Veechi is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Frankelstein is just riding it out for now. Veechi eventually gives up the hold.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
No joy there for Frankelstein, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Veechi drops his hands momentarily and Frankelstein takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Frankelstein loads up on a big right hand but Veechi slips the punch.

Veechi closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Veechi lands in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Frankelstein can't keep his opponent in guard - Veechi advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Veechi seems to be working for a kimura but Frankelstein defends the submission attempt.

Veechi takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Veechi wants to control but Frankelstein is keeping him busy.
Frankelstein wants to get back to his feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Frankelstein is trying to stand up here but Veechi is controlling him well.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Frankelstein throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Frankelstein fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Veechi darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Veechi shoots in for a double leg but Frankelstein sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Frankelstein throws a head kick but Veechi moves out of range.

Veechi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Frankelstein pinned against the cage. Frankelstein gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Veechi ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Frankelstein moves away.

Veechi shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Veechi showed some decent athleticism there.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Veechi frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Frankelstein is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

Veechi has control of Frankelstein's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Frankelstein regains control of the situation pretty easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Veechi is really struggling to control Frankelstein but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Veechi feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Veechi will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
