PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jerry Orbach (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Don Geronimo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Geronimo comes into a darkened arena with his song building. "War," by Edwin Starr kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! On his way into the cage it seems that Jerry Orbach has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jerry Orbach seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Matheus Silva and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Geronimo swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Jerry Orbach seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Geronimo throws a nice looking combination but Orbach bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Orbach tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Geronimo swivels and escapes.
Orbach looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Orbach avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Geronimo walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Orbach checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

That was a close round but I would say that Jerry Orbach will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Geronimo misses with an uppercut.
Orbach shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Geronimo as he jumps to the side.

and Orbach counters with a single leg into guard. Geronimo didn't expect that.

Orbach drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Geronimo manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Orbach has Geronimo in his guard.

Orbach tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Geronimo swivels and escapes.

Geronimo misses with a combination

and Orbach counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Orbach postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Geronimo is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Orbach, into his guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Geronimo won't allow Orbach to get back to his feet.

Orbach working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Geronimo has passed into half guard!

Geronimo postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Orbach to stand up.

Nice body punch from Geronimo.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Geronimo takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Orbach slips a jab from Geronimo.
Orbach moves out of range of the leg kick from Geronimo.
Geronimo looks to throw the jab but Orbach is out of range.

Geronimo will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Geronimo wants to land a leg kick but Orbach is out of range.
Orbach shoots for a double leg takedown but Geronimo sprawls well. He's pushed Orbach's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Geronimo throws out a loose jab but Orbach uses good head movement to avoid it.

A close second round but Don Geronimo will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Orbach bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Geronimo gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Geronimo moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Orbach is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Geronimo is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Geronimo has escaped and now he's on top!

Geronimo avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Orbach looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Geronimo puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Geronimo prevents Orbach from improving his position.
Geronimo wants to pass to mount but Orbach is defending the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Orbach looks to move to half guard but instead Geronimo has passed into mount! Damn!
Jerry Orbach overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Geronimo manages to capitalize on a mistake by Orbach to take his back!

Don Geronimo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Geronimo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
