Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Danilo Rowland! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Edson Barboza! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Mauricio Rocha and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rowland looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Rowland blocks a head kick by Barboza.
Rowland misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Barboza fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Rowland has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Barboza throws a head kick but Rowland moves out of range.
Rowland darts in trying to clinch and Barboza decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rowland's guard. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Barboza wants to stand but Rowland has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Barboza stops Rowland from standing up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Barboza would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Rowland is looking to stand up but Barboza isn't so interested in that idea. Barboza looks winded!

That's two minutes gone in the round. Rowland wants to stand and escape but Barboza is having none of it. Rowland working for a triangle but Barboza defends it easily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Rowland is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Barboza dives into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Barboza stands up. Barboza throws a head kick that half lands.
A head kick misses from Barboza. Rowland throws a head kick that misses. Barboza moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Barboza throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Rowland showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Barboza.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Barboza avoids the body shot from Rowland.
Excellent takedown into side control there by Rowland. Rowland is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Barboza is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Barboza can do anything to dispel that myth. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Barboza takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Danilo Rowland will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
The fight moves into the clinch position. Barboza's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Rowland dodges the punch combination from Barboza.

Rowland decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Rowland landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Rowland working over Barboza with some ground and pound. Barboza looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Barboza is breathing heavily. Rowland seems to be looking for submissions.

Rowland has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Barboza has hold of Rowland's hands but Rowland slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rowland is working for a kimura but Barboza is defending it quite comfortably.
Rowland working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Barboza is trying to stand up here but Rowland is controlling him well. Rowland scoring with strikes to the body and head. Barboza felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Barboza is trying to escape back to his feet but Rowland uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Rowland is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Barboza has escaped the position, nice work there. Rowland is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Barboza knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Rowland lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Barboza down.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rowland goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Barboza has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Rowland but great work by Barboza. Rowland throws Barboza to one side and escapes! Rowland shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Rowland throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Barboza's waist but Barboza gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rowland off to one side. Rowland lands a right hook to the body.
Rowland avoids a low kick by using good footwork. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Danilo Rowland dominated that second round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!
Barboza throws a combination that misses and Rowland makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. A right-left combo lands from Barboza.
It looks like Danilo Rowland has been cut. Rowland tries to score a power double leg takedown but Barboza sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Rowland somewhat. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rowland. Barboza lands a high kick!
Rowland is rocked! Rowland closes the distance looking to clinch and Barboza counters with a head kick that wobbles Rowland - left then right he sways and one more bomb from Barboza sends him down. This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:49 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Edson Barboza!
