Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Herb Frederick! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sam Shank! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Yves DeLean and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shank is looking to clinch but Frederick is avoiding it.
Frederick throws a body punch but Shank moves out of range. Frederick pushes Shank up against the cage in a clinch. Frederick pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Frederick really is a fat lump. Frederick rushes Shank and presses him up against the cage. Frederick's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Frederick dips to his left and cracks Shank with an uppercut! Frederick dodges the punch combination from Shank.
Shank tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Frederick paws at him with a jab and circles away. Frederick closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Frederick seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Frederick throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shank is defending against the submission attempts here by Frederick.
Frederick is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Shank is just riding it out for now. Frederick eventually gives up the hold. Frederick wants to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Frederick is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Shank defends it well. Frederick not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Frederick is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Frederick is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Frederick is trying to control the action in half guard but Shank is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Frederick throws a strike but Shank avoids it easily and moves to full guard. Frederick in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Frederick with a flurry of punches that miss. Shank working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Frederick. Frederick working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Frederick in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Frederick is in close to Shank's body, working some short punches and elbows. Frederick with a flurry of punches that miss. Frederick loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Shank looks winded! Shank can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Frederick controls the pace. Shank really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Frederick. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Frederick stands up from Shank's guard - Frederick perhaps looking for a knockout. This has been an exciting period of action! Frederick fails with the takedown. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Frederick shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Frederick was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Herb Frederick dominated that round. That's time! Frederick's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Shank looks to clinch and Frederick counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Frederick. Shank trying to land knees to the body.

Shank tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Shank is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Frederick manages to break the clinch.
Shank tries to clinch but Frederick is having none of it. Shank wants to clinch up but Frederick keeps it at a distance. Shank fails in his attempt to clinch. Shank tries to clinch up and Frederick counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Shank thinking. Frederick darts in and clinches Shank up against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shank misses with a short punch on the inside. Frederick lands a good knee to the midsection. Shank won't want to take too many of those. Shank is breathing heavily. Frederick goes for a takedown attempt but Shank pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Shank tries to clinch but fails miserably and Frederick counters by moving into the clinch. Shank tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Shank misses with a short punch on the inside. Frederick pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Shank tries to clinch up. Frederick swats away the attempt to clinch by Shank. Shank tries to keep at a distance but Frederick has taken the fight into the clinch. Frederick can't get the takedown.

That's two minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! Frederick decides to stand back up. Frederick moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Frederick has taken the fight to the clinch.
Frederick blocks the elbow strike.
Frederick is trying to trip Shank. He has hold of a leg but Shank is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Frederick persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Frederick is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Frederick stands up from Shank's guard - Frederick perhaps looking for a knockout. Shank tries to clinch there but Frederick circles away.
Shank wants to clinch but Frederick slips to the side and Frederick holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Frederick gets control of Shank's arms and successfully pulls guard. Frederick will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Shank would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Shank must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Frederick pulls Shank in close to prevent any damage. Frederick is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Shank trying to stand up but can't free himself from Frederick's guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Frederick seems keen to control Shank's posture. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Shank throws a right and a left that Frederick avoids nicely. Frederick circles away from the clinch attempt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Shank tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Frederick manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Shank closes the distance but Frederick moves to the side and Frederick connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Herb Frederick dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!
Shank ducks under a wild hook from Frederick. Shank wants to clinch but Frederick slips to the side and Frederick counters with a nice double leg into side control. Shank won't be happy with that. Frederick tries to score with some ground and pound. Shank controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Shank parries the strikes from Frederick easily there. Frederick is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Shank to escape.
Frederick tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Frederick stands up and beckons Shank to his feet. Shank throws a series of punches but Frederick avoids them all with ease. Shank takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shank wants to clinch but Frederick slips to the side and Frederick counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Frederick missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Frederick wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Shank uses the opportunity to regain full guard. Shank avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Frederick scoring with some ground and pound. Frederick stands up from guard. Let's bang! Shank wants to clinch but Frederick slips to the side and Frederick holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Shank can't break the clinch.
Frederick decides to pull guard. Herb Frederick overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Frederick wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Frederick is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Frederick tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Frederick landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Frederick in particular looking to stall. Frederick is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Shank has managed to free his arm - good work. Frederick controlling the action here. Frederick lands strikes from half guard.

Frederick gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Shank throws a series of punches but Frederick moves out of range. Sam Shank has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Herb Frederick is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Shank misses with a shot to the body so Frederick counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
And that's the end of the fight! Herb Frederick showed his dominance in that final round. Well Frederick has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
